Comments: I had driven up in the morning to meet Phil, and was thankful to get one of the last spaces in the lay by near the foot of Cat Bells. We had to spend quite a while waiting for Anthony to arrive and then had the fun of watching him try to park the car. Instead of following the crowds up the face of Cat Bells we went along the lower path above Derwent and ascended after the first summit. The day was quite pleasant but both Anthony and Fred seemed to be struggling slightly in the heat. The route from Catbells to Maiden Moor and High Spy was uneventful and quite pleasant as a slight breeze developed. The ascent from the tarn to Dale Head was slow going but myself and Phil met a couple on top who seemed amazed that we had been chatting on the route up. We decided to come off hindscarth and then walked around the valley bottom to get back to the foot of Catbells. It had been a while since I had done such a long walk and I was quite pleased when we got to the end. dinner was had in the Oddfellows Arms in Keswick.
