I & M Canal(Lock 14) Information

Quick overview:
Lock 14 (of 15 locks) has been going thru major restoration in order to bring it back to its late 19th century look. This venue is currently the only one of our venues that caters to a waggler angler as most of the canal is narrow enough to cast to its far bank. Small rocks border a good stretch of its shoreline that provide hiding places for smaller fish during high water and a place for an angler to fish without being submersed in mud during low water conditions. For a recreational angler, you also have an opportunity to fish the Little Vermilion River as the canal passes over it, a real plus. The only caveat is for the pole anglers as the slope is pretty steep and you will probably have to bring the pole up and onto a bike path. For 2001, plans are to breach the earthen dam and put lock 14 back into operation. What this will do for fishing will be most interesting.
