Dog Cookies
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup cornmeal
2 cup bulgur(cracked wheat)
1 cup rye flour
1/2 cup nonfat dry powdered milk
2 to 4 teaspoons salt
1 package active dry yeast
1 cup lukewarm water
2 cups chicken stock or beef stock
2 eggs plue 2 tablespoons milk(for brushing top of cookies)
Before making, buy cookie cutters shaped like dogs, cats, fire hydrants, etc. Look in pet shops,
kitchen shops or pet catalogs for cutters.
Preheat oven to 300 degrees F. In a large bowl combine dry ingredients. In a separate bowl,
dissolve yeast in one cup lukewarm water. Let stand until it bubbles. Add the chicken or beef stock to
the yeast mixture and stir. Pour the liquid into the dry ingredients and stir till completely mixed.
The dough should be stiff. If not add a little more flour. Flour a board with cornmeal and roll to
1/4 to 1/2 inches thick. Cut out cookies and place on ungreased cookie sheets. Mix the eggs and
milk and brush the tops of the cookies. This will give them a shiny look. Bake for 45 minues. Turn
off the oven. Let the cookies stay in the oven or on the counter overnight. This will make them
bone-hard. ( I prefer to leave them in the oven) Store in plastic container or plastic bag. These are
great treats for your dog, and also make unique Christmas presents for relatives pets and friends pets.
Makes between 18 to 36 dog cookies.
