Report=Wanted to give this lake one more shot before the trout were all gone. My daughter and I arrived about 6:30 and walked over to the backside. We fished until 12:30 and caught six 1 to 1-1/2 pound rainbows and a 1 pound largemouth. We also lost a 10-12 pound catfish that was the real excitment for the day. After catching a few trout, my daughter tells me there's a big catfish by the stringer. I got up but by the time I could see, there was only swirls in the water. I told her it was probably a big bass as I have seen them here before eye-balling my stringer. 5 minutes passed and the big fish was back and sure enough, it was a catfish, huge!! I threw my flylined nightcrawler setup that I was using for bass but the small splash of the worm was enough to scare him off. So I left the worm there. 5 minutes passed again and he comes back, swims right over the worm but doesn't take it, just stares at the trout on the stringer. "Let's give him what he wants" I said. I got up, thus scaring him again, but I pulled in the stringer and cut open one of the trout and put the stomach onto my hook. I threw the stringer back out and put the gut out just past the stringer. No more than two minutes later he was back and sucked those guts right up! I grabbed the rod, set the hook and what does he do? Runs right into the bushes, of course! Oh well, that's what i get for only bringing #2 & #4 test rods with me. Last time I brought the #10 stick hoping for big bass but didn't even use it. The moral of this story? Be prepared!!
