Report: Got a last minute call from my buddy Jamie Spencer (JESSportfishing.com) to hop on his first charter of the year aboard the Conquest. We left the dock about 10 pm and started fishing at 5:30 am. First stop was a dry kelp paddy. Nobody home. The next paddy was a ringer, everybody hooked up on this one, I personally put four on the deck on this stop. The yellows were hungry and eating #30 test with no problem. We motored around for the rest of the day and found more paddys and pulled a few fish from each of them. Everybody ended up with limits (5) of nice yellows. With my limit in the bag, I scaled down to #15 test and tried out my new Penn 975CS. What a sweet reel that is. No albacore taken but a boat fishing about 10 miles from us put over 10 on the deck. Got back to the landing after 8pm and saw a few of the albies being unloaded. They were nice ones, in the #25 pound class. Thanks Jamie, for inviting me on your most excellent charter trip. The albies are here guys... go get them!
