Friends of Shiloh National Military Park

"Where the guns can still be heard."

Since its establishment on December 27, 1894, the nation's second oldest national military park has commemorated the history of the Battle of Shiloh on the actual ground where it occured. Today the park's almost 4,000 acres include 90% of the historic battlefield. With its pristine conditions and serene atmosphere, Shiloh has a reputation as the best preserved of the major Civil War battlefields. Yet as it prepares for its second century, Shioloh National Military Park is in need of friends!

For many years the park has been protected by its isolated position; even today Hardin county's population is less than the total casualties of Shiloh. Yet increasing development and lack of protective zoning especially near the Tennessee river threatens the historic scene for so long visible on the battlefield.

"Shiloh - Portrait of a Battle," the orientation film shown at the Visitor Center for over thirty years, when compared to more recent audio/visual productions, is now painfully outdated.

The Friends of Shiloh National Military Park, Inc. support a Second Century Campaign to underwrite commemoration, preservation, and education activities on West Tennessee's most hallowed ground. Won't you join with your fellow citizens to insure the historical treasure of Shiloh, as it has been in the park's first century, will be preserved for generations to come?

Established in 1992, the Friends of Shiloh National Military Park is a non-profit organization working to promote and preserve West Tennessee's famed Shiloh Battlefield. Through a public support network on both the local and national levels, the Friends support three major goals:
