Farmington Canal Heritage Trail

After a day cycling on the Farmington Valley Greenway and Farmington River Trail we drove 20 miles south to cycle the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail in Cheshire and Hamden. Both the Farmington Valley Greenway and the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail are part of the East Coast Greenway, a bikeway between Maine and Florida with road routes connecting bike paths. We stayed at Motel 6 in Southington, halfway between the trails. Both trails are near route 10.

Click here for map of Connecticut bike trails then click on button 24 for a map of the trail in Hamden and button 26 for a map of the trail in Cheshire. The two maps are copied and combined here. Parking locations are marked. The only toilet along the trail, which we remember, is at the parking area near Todd St.The trail is finished farther than is shown on the map and is now about 10 miles long. The portion shown as dotted is now complete and it extends to Dixwell ave. and Rt. 15 in the south. Here are some pictures and descriptions of the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail.
