The Mohawk-Hudson Bikeway, which is the along the eastern part of the Erie Barge Canal, is an asphalt path that extends between Rotterdam Junction and Cohoes. In this section, this is the Erie Barge Canal which is actually the Mohawk River with locks forming the canal route. The Mohawk-Hudson Bike-Hike Trail site has a printable map in nine panels. Six panels are for the Mohawk-Hudson Trail and the last three are for nearby bike paths. It also has an address to order this map and descriptive brochure. It is important to have a detailed map because there are some places where the path is hard to follow and the is a break in the path in Schenectady where it is necessary to follow city streets.

In general we thought this path was the least interesting of the three sections. It sometimes is close to the Mohawk River and sometimes is further away. In some places it is close to busy highways and in some parts of Schenectady, the surroundings aren't very pretty.

Here is some information on camping, accomodations, etc along the Mohawk Hudson Bikeway.

A free regional Bike-Hike Map showing other bike paths and suggested routes in this area can be obtained from the NY State Transportation Department. Click on the Capital District/Albany link to get an email address to order the map. It can also be obtained by writing to:
