There are only four locks in the 85 miles between Palmyra and Lockport so this part of the canal lives up to its name,the Great Level. We saw many more boats here than in the eastern part of the Barge Canal. We went on this ride in September when many boaters were taking boats from the Great Lakes back to the Hudson River.
