Human 7:Project 1 Humanities - The languages and literatures of ancient Greece and Rome; the classics. Those branches of knowledge, such as philosophy, literature, and art that are concerned with human thought and culture; the liberal arts. History A narrative of events; a story. A chronological record of events, as of the life or development of a people or institution, often including an explanation of or commentary on those events: a history of the Vikings. Art The products of human creativity; works of art collectively. The creation of beautiful or significant things; he was a patron of art. Literature The body of written works of a language, period, or culture. The body of written work produced by scholars or researchers in a given field: medical literature. Society - The totality of social relationships among humans. A group of humans broadly distinguished from other groups by mutual interests, participation in characteristic relationships, shared institutions, and a common culture. Culture The totality of socially transmitted behavior patterns, arts, beliefs, institutions, and all other products of human work and thought. The predominating attitudes and behavior that characterize the functioning of a group or organization. Socio-economics - Of or involving both social and economic factors. Film - A form of entertainment that enacts a story by a sequence of images giving the illusion of continuous movement. A medium (art or business) that disseminates moving pictures. The humanities include art, history, literature, society, socio-economics and film. It may seem that humanities is a simple study of a cultures likes, dislikes, experiences, etc. Dependant upon your view or position, humanities can be a simple study or very complex. For example, a person can be an avid fan of cinema and watch several movies a week; classics or new releases a film producer is deeply involved in the production of these same movies, but may not regularly watch on movies. Both examples are of people interested in film, but within their respective levels of interest. Whether one is interested in the topics of humanities (film, art, history, etc.) or not, each persons life is somehow effected by the past and present day influences that result from what others create, be it visual, financial, historical, etc. those topics that make up humanities. |
