(Chapter 1) An Unfamiliar Face/Someone New
Shinji was up early that morning. Recently he had been suffering from strange dreams as well as grotesque nightmares. He would wake up sweating or kicking and screaming. This night was different. He dreamed he was in school when a strange shadow massed itself over Tokyo 3 and all the power went out. When he looked out side he saw a large green mass in the sky. He stared at it some more until he noticed the eye. A large red eye with a black pupil was staring strait back at him. He then felt a sudden pain as a bolt of electricity flew at him striking and burning his arm. He then woke up shivering and sweating. Since it was only 6:00 a.m. he got up and started up breakfast, two slices of toast. When finished he fed PenPen his usual Fish and water. He was about to head for the door when Asuka woke up.
"What the hell are you doing up so early?" she asked.
"It's only 7:00 o'clock." Shinji answered
"Well if you keep waking up so early be a little bit quiet you disturb ME from MY SLEEP!" she yelled at him. That's when Misato woke up. She came out yawning as usual. She gave a quick good morning and took a beer out of the Fridge. 'That seems very unhealthy.' thought Shinji. Shinji decided to stay and wait for Kensuke and Touji who always met him at his door to get a look at Misato before school. There was a ring and Shinji instinctively knew who it was. He answered the door and got the normal saying.
"Good Morning Ikari." said both Kensuke and Touji. They peeked their heads in to say hello to Misato but Asuka was standing there with full fury so they backed away.
"Well get out of my way!" she yelled at the trio. It was Touji who bowed down and moved out of the way. She walked passed and he Smirked
"Yes your Highness!"
She stopped and turned around.
"I'll 'yes your highness' you!" she yelled angrily as you smacked him twice in the face. With that she stormed off to find Hikari.
"Ouch!" exclaimed Kensuke "that musta hurt."
"Wasn't too bad." said Touji. They then headed to school. it was Kensuke who brought up the subject.
"So Shinji did you hear about the new kid." he asked.
"No," Shinji said.(Playing along)
"I haven't heard of him yet either." said Touji.
"He's another kid from America. his name is Yoshiro Ayan. Apparently he's of Japanese heritage but he has only lived here for 2 years. He was nearly killed in Second Impact when his mother was stuck in a Tsunami. His father died in the Tsunami and most of his family have connections with the UN; You sure you don't know who he is?" Kensuke finished.
"No, I don't know him." said Shinji. Really he already knew Yoshiro. He met him The
other night when he was getting his new security card.
*flash back*
"Hey Shinji!" Misato yelled walking towards him with someone behind her.
"Hi Misato." Shinji said. When she was within talking distance she spoke.
"Shinji," she said "I want you to meet Yoshiro Ayan, the sixth child."
"Hi," said a shocked Shinji. 'Why don't they ever alert us about this stuff until the last minute!' he thought.
"Hello," said Yoshiro. He seemed to be shy and not used to being around others of his age, but Shinji knew he would be fine soon. After all he had gone through the same process.
"Right," Misato paused "Shinji. I want you to get the word to Rei and Asuka for me OK."
"Umm, OK." he said.
"Oh and Shinji," said Misato
"Yes?" Shinji asked.
"Have something ready for dinner. I'm working Night-shift today." she finished.
"Um OK." said Shinji.
*Reality*
"Hey Shinji, are you still here?" asked Tour
"Hugh, oh sorry about that I was just thinking." said Shinji
"About what?" asked Kensuke
"Something that happened yesterday. It isn't important." replied Shinji
"Sure." said Touji.
*Deep in Nerv. Comander Ikari is in a meeting with the Committee*
Member #1: So Ikari what is this special meeting for.
Member #3: It had better not be a waste of time.
Ikari: Don't worry I assure you this is important.
Member #6: So what do you have for us today?
Ikari: I have Uncovered a secret, with the help of Dr. Akagi, in the Melchior data banks.
Member #4: What can this mean?
Ikari: Due to our early use of the Lance of Longinous, it is predicted that 10 angels of Far Greater power will assault us here on Earth.
Member #2: And what counter measures are you planing to use against it?
Ikari: We have received the sixth child Yesterday. He is part of my plan as well as the First and Third Child.
Member #5: And What about the Second Child?
Ikari: The Second child will remain as the designated pilot of Unit-02.
Member #1: We see no problems with this proceed as planned commander.
Ikari Smiles. Everything was going according to plan.
*Yoshiro's Apartment*
Yoshiro was not as busy as he thought he would have been. He had nothing to do except go to school which he was told not to do until his first activation with Unit-05. All he had to do was wait for Major Katsuragi to pick him up and bring him into headquarters. But still, he felt edgy. He reached into his bag and pulled a small pistol from one of the pockets. Ever since he had been attacked by the mugger in America he had kept a gun with him. Everything was quiet for a few seconds. Then he heard a knock at the door.
He walked to the door and looked through the spyhole. It was Misato. He opened the door.
"Hiya Yoshiro. You ready?" she asked in a cheery mood. He simply nodded.
*Nerv Operations Control room*
"Is Unit-05 really going to be activated today?" asked an eager Maya, one of the main technicians.
"Yeah, that's what I heard," said Hyuga, the pilot health technician, "but it's hard to tell if it will really be ready."
"Well I guess time will tell." concluded Aoba, the enemy data analyzer.
The technicians and the workers were working at top speed to get Unit-04 ready for activation. It was a business that took great care to make sure that nothing would go wrong. All of the computer programming was stored in Melchior's data banks.
'They're actually getting it done ahead of schedule' thought Commander Ikari.
"So what do you think of our progress so far?" asked Ritsuko from behind Ikari.
"It's exceptional." said the commander, who was trying to keep his voice from sounding
like he was impressed.
*Misato's car*
"Are you ready for school today Yoshiro?" asked Misato. he nodded. He still had the pistol in his pocket. he hadn't expected to be going to school today but he was prepared in case he would have to.
"So what was living in America like." she asked.
"It was fine." said Yoshiro, keeping back his sob. All of his memories started to flood back into his mind of his life in America. he turned them aside and started thinking of weather or not it would be safe to open up to anyone in Nerv. He didn't even trust himself at this time, but he decided it was time to stop being shy and live life up to his expectations.
"Will I meet the other Pilots today?" he asked remembering slightly hearing their names when he arrived at Nerv headquarters.
"Yes you will although you probably won't notice them until after school. but don't worry Shinji will introduce you to them." said Misato
"OK." he said. Maybe being a pilot wouldn't be so tough, like they told him, after all.
*school*
Shinji was tired. he woke up too early and never got back to sleep. 'Maybe I should see a Psychiatrist or something.' he thought. He perked up when he noticed the door open and in walked a green eyed kid. 'Yoshiro!' he thought 'what's he doing here today?!'
"Class," said the teacher "this is our new student transferred in form America, His name is Yoshiro Ayan."
"Hi," he said shyly
"Shinji," the teacher paused
"Yes?" Shinji asked.
"Would you show Yoshiro around help him get to know the place." asked the teacher. It was more of an order than a question so Shinji didn't protest.
"Yes sir." said Shinji. he then turned to Yoshiro "fallow me." he said, and Yoshiro did. There wasn't much to show since much of the School had been totaled in a battle with an Angel, but Shinji didn't mind and neither did Yoshiro.
"The Cafeteria was destroyed a month ago when we were attacked by an Angel so we can usually eat anywhere we want." said Shinji. Yoshiro Nodded in response.
"Do you an activation test today?" asked Shinji in curiosity. Yoshiro's eyes seemed to get brighter.
"Yes, I do." he said in an excited tone. "How can he be excited about this?' thought Shinji. They headed back to the school room so they wouldn't miss something important.
Everything was going fine until he heard a ringing sound emerge from his pocket. 'Oh, man not now!' he thought. School was almost over. Still came the ringing 'Come on, just a few more minutes!' still ringing.
"Mr. Ikari, Is there a problem?!" asked the stern teacher.
"Um, well, uh, no." said the nervous Shinji.
"Well then take it outside and take care of it!" said a now angry teacher.
"Yes Sir." said Shinji as he rushed out of the room. He pulled out his cell phone and answered it.
"Hello?" he said.
"Shinji, it's me," said Misato on the other end.
"Yes?" he asked
"I want you to introduce Yoshiro and bring him to headquarters with you after school, OK?" she asked
"Sure." said Shinji. Misato hung up and Shinji hung up after her.
The bell rang and students rushed out of the building. Everyone but Rei, Asuka and Yoshiro who were still packing up their things.
"Hey Rei, Asuka." called Shinji. They both looked up.
"What?" asked Asuka.
"I want you to meet Yoshiro the new Pilot for Unit-04." he said
"Well that's great more back up." said Asuka
"Hello." said Rei
"Hi." replied Yoshiro. It would take a few days for him to be comfortable around new people but he would do it.
"So now what?" asked Asuka, impatient as ever.
"Now we all have to go report to head quarters."
"Then lets get going." said Rei, before Asuka could start an argument. All four of them had their things packed and they were on their way. They walked through much of Tokyo 3, which was still recuperating after a large fight in which much of the city caught on fire. But still the city sustained minor damage compared to what could of happened if the Angel had self destruct, destroying much of the city. They reached the station. they showed their security passes to the guards and walked on through to where the tram was waiting. After boarding the tram, Yoshiro checked his pocket to make sure he hadn't dropped the gun. It was still there. 'Why did I take this thing with me?' he thought 'these people all seem to be nice even though they have gone through such destruction.' He resolved to leave it home the next time he went out. The tram stopped and he 4 pilots walked out to the main entrance. they ran their security cards through separate terminals and the doors opened. they walked in to find Misato waiting for them.
"Hi guys thanks for coming." she said, then she turned to Yoshiro. "Are you ready for activation?" she asked.
"I'm ready as I'll ever be." he answered. He was excited and it was starting to show on his face so they all started walking to the locker room. He found his locker and pulled out his plug suit. The others did the same. they all went to their changing areas and got suited up. Yoshiro was wearing a Green, Silver and black suit. No one but the Techs or the Officers had seen Unit-05, so this would be his first time. The first time they put him in an Eva was in the US Second Branch of Nerv. Inside Unit-04 the new US Production model. Everything was going good until the Eva started to go Berserk and he lost control. He would have been killed had the new eject system not shoot him as far as it did, but he shrugged that memory aside. This one was made to fit his Mind and DNA They took him to the test room and he finally saw Unit-04. It was huge. Almost bigger than Unit-01. It's helmet had two large spikes and it had the normal shoulder spikes. One thing different was it had more hidden compartments. Shinji was in awe, Asuka felt jealousy, whereas Rei was also in awe. Yoshiro's eyes were sparkling. Then he felt a cold thought. A sudden vision in his mind. A large circular object exploding sending what looked like his Eva flying backwards. Then he felt a quick pain along his side. 'What could it mean?' he thought. He forgot about it as he saw Ritsuko walking up to him with Misato. They started to tell him where all his weapon compartments were as well as his weapons. Shinji overheard them mention a sword. He remembered about why they made an axe but a sword? He didn't know why but he had a feeling Yoshiro was about to become an outstanding pilot. He remembered them saying how he graduated from West Point Military Academy when he was 14 and how he nearly was killed when the Second Branch of Nerve disappeared.
"OK Yoshiro, we're filling the entry plug with a new type of LCL but don't worry this has been tested before. Just breath deep." said Ritsuko,
"OK," said Yoshiro, 'I already got tested with the new LCL' he thought to himself. As the plug filled he breathed in deep. This LCL actually had a temperature feeling as it went through his body. He felt a bit cold.
"Entry plug filled starting with primary activation," said Maya, "reaching critical level 1.7, 1.5, 1.1, .7, .4, .2, reaching primary border line." Yoshiro was thinking hard. His concentration had risen.
"Borderline clear we are in synch." said Maya.
"Roger," said Yoshiro. He let out a sigh of relief. That's when the sighting occurred.
"An unknown object has been sighted in the bay near New Yokosuka, The code is Blue." said Aoba.
"Enemy attack?!" asked Misato.
"Yes." said Aoba
"Yoshiro's synch ratio is almost perfect!" exclaimed Ritsuko, "I think we should send him up with Shinji." Misato thought for a minute.
"OK," she said, "Shinji, report to the cage and prepare for launch. Rei and Asuka report to the cages and stand by." she then proceeded to tell Yoshiro all of the emergency elevators and weapon locations.
"Our Priority is to stop the angel at all costs. If your Eva is heavily damaged or you are hurt proceed to an Emergency Elevator and get back down here." said Misato.
"Roger." replied the pilots. Both were feeling a bit tense. Commander Ikari who was watching the whole thing remained silent.
"Eva Launch!" shouted Misato.
Yoshiro felt the high G-forces against his body as the Eva sped towards the surface. In three seconds the Eva's were up and moving carefully. The Angel had been sited again near a large newly created river.
"OK you two, we're looking for something looking like an Orange fruit." said Misato. There was much tension in the Bridge. Since the fact of new Angels had been discovered certain risks had to be taken. They also knew that this Angel was considerably more power full than most of the other Angels that had been fought.
"I see it!" hissed Yoshiro.
The Angel was huge. It had a large red circle in it's middle, but it's body was exactly like Misato described. A big piece of fruit with tiny legs so it could crawl about. Both he and Shinji noticed the large red spot between it's eyes. It started to glow in a rainbow of colors. Yoshiro tried not to look but it calmed his mind. He was mesmerized.
"Yoshiro MOVE!" yelled Shinji, but it was too late. A large beam flew out at Unit-05, making a large indent as well as a small hole in the armor throwing Unit-05 backwards. It snapped Yoshiro into reality.
"Yoshiro get out of the way!" shouted Shinji. Yoshiro felt his chest and side. He felt a great pain inside his lungs and a small gash in his side. 'I'm bleeding!' he thought to himself. Breathing hard he got up. A compartment on his Eva's left leg opened up to reveal a sword. Shinji saw him pull it out. The Angel was trying to get in a quicker recharge. Shinji fired a volley at it with the Positron Rifle. It' didn't do much but the Angel paused. It let out a low level blast at Yoshiro. This time he was ready, he lept out of the way but the shot caught his power cable. It caused him to fall. His gash seemed to open wider. He could feel and see his blood running out of his side.
"Unit-05 has switched to stand by power!" Maya exclaimed.
"Launch Unit-00 and 02 now!" yelled Misato.
"DIEEEE!!!!" screamed Yoshiro as he charged forwards. The angel's beam started to glow again but it was to late. Unit-05 slammed into it with full force, stabbing into the orb in it's middle, hacking at it like a mad man. The Angel went silent.
"The Target has gone completely sil... What? The Target is drawing a huge energy force it's gonna EXPLODE!!!" yelled Aoba.
All of the sudden the Angel exploded, blowing Unit-05 backwards. Yoshiro screamed in
pain and then blacked out as Unit-05 hit the ground and flew into the river. Everyone
froze at Yoshiro's scream as stillness filled the air.
