Werewolf
Werewolf. That's what I have become. I learned this not to far after I had returned to being. I met so many others who were just like me. Of course, the real term for what I am would be Lycanthrope, not werewolf, but I've come to accept what human society has called me and the others. Now I live in the woods, part of a pack of creatures just like me. I learned that every legend about werewolves was true, except for how they were killed. We can't be killed by wolf's bane, or normal knives. Also, you don't become a werewolf just because one bit you. You are one from birth, even though you may not realize it. I was a part of a family now. A pack, sworn to protect each other, we lived in the woods near Nerv Headquarters. Though much of the city was destroyed life went on.
Now, as a werewolf, I discovered I had three forms instead of just one. I also learned that the full moon doesn't change you, you change yourself. I have my human form, Shinji Ikari, my war form, and my wolf form. In war form I found that we look like a giant 9 foot tall wolf with many human features. The only difference is that we have powerful muscles, jaws capable of tearing a human in half, powerful hind legs which allow us to run at incredible speeds and three inch claws that would cut strait through almost anything.
I was named, Defender-of-Good by my pack elders. This was due to the fact that they learned I was Shinji Ikari, the fighter against the Angels. Another thing, we heal incredibly fast, the only thing that doesn't allow healing at a fast rate is damage done by silver and the claws of another werewolf.
Another difference I found was how there weren't only werewolves. There were Shapeshifters of all kinds, including: Fox, Shark, Dragon, Rat, Bird, Tiger, and even snake! We all co-exist together, aware of each other at all times, yet sometimes fights have begun just because some think completely different compared to the others.
I found that my father was not a werewolf though. My mother was, something he never counted on. In fact, my mother used to be in the same pack I was in, but she wished to live the human life and discover things most of the wolves never knew. In a way I thank her for that, but I still hate my father for intentionally cutting her life short. He's reaped the benefits from others lives and I was going to do something about it.
I was in my wolf shape, lying down in our secret cavern, in my own section of cave. I looked lazily at the light entering from a crevice. We lived almost completely in the dark at times because of the growth in human activity in the woods. I felt it wouldn't be long before someone stumbled into our cavern and we were discovered.
"Shinji? What are you doing?" came a sweet voice in front of me.
I looked up. Young Moon, Mariko Hirogashi, was looking at me curiously. She too was in her wolf form. Even in the dark I could see her light brown fur and green eyes gazing at me. She always watched me, wondering what I was doing all alone, hardly partaking in most of the night time activities.
"Nothing Mariko." I replied tiredly.
I watched her lie down in front of me. Was I that transparent?
"You were thinking of her again weren't you. . ."
I looked away for a moment. Rei. . .oh how I miss you! I want to be in your arms again. I want to kiss you and tell you I'm here for you. I'm so sorry. . .
"Yes. . ."
"I knew it, Shinji you're going to have to let her go."
I felt angry at that and it was in my voice.
"Why?! Why can't I think of her?! I love her dammit!!" I shouted angrily.
I must have scared her, 'cause she was surprised and jumped a bit when I shouted.
"Why must you live ever day in depression?!" she growled, a bit annoyed at my behavior.
I didn't say anything.
"Listen, I understand what it's like to lose a loved one. You know damn well what I went through when you found me."
She was right. She had felt my loss and hers was bad. I was the one who discovered her when I was roaming the alleyways of Tokyo-3 one day, getting used to my senses. I remember it like it was yesterday.
I was walking through the alleyways near the Hakaido region, where Misato and Asuka lived. It was dangerous walking in my human skin, but I wore a long coat and some darker clothes and a rain hat, keeping my head low. I walked up to the apartment building, seeing Misato's car wasn't there. I walked into the building, taking the elevator up to our old floor. I walked to the door and pressed the open button. Strangely it was unlocked, so I bit the bullet and walked in.
The place wasn't as littered with liquor bottles and beer cans compared to when I first walked in that place. I guess Asuka had been trying to clean as well as she could, but Misato must have been tremendously heart broken to not give a shit. She lost so much. Ritsuko, Kaji, and me. She must have been having a hard time. I carefully walked over the cans and bottles to my old room and looked inside. It was spotless just like when I last used it, the only time I used it when I came back.
I walked out of that room and over to Asuka's. It was neatly clean. All of her things were sorted and set in their places, including a picture which was right next to her bed of her, Rei, and me. Her closet was empty now. I hid myself in her empty closet when I heard the door open. I waited, looking through a tiny little crack at the vacant door way to the room. Soon Misato appeared, swaying slightly, being held up by Asuka. She was holding a bottle of whiskey and took a large gulp.
"Misato! You've got to stop this! I'm not going to let you get yourself fired because of being drunk!" Asuka said.
"I don't care about that fucking job anymore!" yelled Misato.
That was the first time I hear her yell in an angry way in my life. I shifted into wolf form and slowly crept out, keeping hidden from the view of the girls. Asuka was leading Misato to Misato's room, so I took my chance and ran out of the room and straight to the front door. I jumped up slightly and nudged the door button with my nose and ran out the open door to the stairwells. I ran down the stairs to the ground level and outside an open doorway into the streets. I slowed down, looking around. The streets were empty, but cars would drive by at intervals of 2-5, minutes. I took an alley way and shifted into my human form. The sensations were incredible! To feel your body structure changing was really quite amazing. The bones making a crunching sound as they fixed shape. My clothes were bonded, spiritually, to my human form. Hard to believe, since they're clothes, but it's true. I began running blindly down the alley way when some bum began squinting at me real hard and calling me Pilot. I didn't need anymore attention from Humans. That's when I heard the girl scream. I stopped and peered around the corner. A girl was being forced against the wall by some gutter trash punks. Fucking assholes. Another guy, was lying in a pool of blood nearby. Probably a boy friend. One of the punks had a big orange dyed mohawk. Son-of-a-bitch! He grabbed her by her shirt collar and ripped her shirt in half, exposing the girls breasts. I know I shouldn't have done what I did, but the bastard would have raped her! I walked out and looked upon them coldly. The other two punks were shorter than the leader, they both had spiked hair and wore a lot of leather. They also carried knives.
"Hey boss, looks like we have a visitor! Want me to cut 'im up?" asked to shortest one.
The mohawk punk smiled and forced his tongue into Mariko's mouth. I shuddered.
"No. Let him join in the fun."
I grinned evilly to make it look like I was agreeing. I stepped up to him, grabbed his hand, and in one quick movement, I shattered his wrist. He screamed and wrenched his arm free.
"Mother fucker!" he screamed.
He pulled out a gun with his other hand and shot me. Twice he shot me, in the chest. I fell back, and felt my rage take me over. I was soon in the war form. I jumped to my feet, my wounds healed. I killed them. All three of them. I slaughtered them mercilessly. Mariko had changed somewhere in that time frame with out realizing it. I felt my rage contain it self and I was in wolf form. I looked at Mariko, who also was a wolf.
"What the fuck is going on?! WHAT ARE YOU? WHAT AM I!?" She howled.
She looked down at her paws. I told her to follow me, that I would explain when we reached the cavern.
And so, I found a new friend who was just like me. But I didn't like how she would try and "help" me forget Rei. I can't forget the ones I love, for I love Rei the most.
"Mariko, I'm going to see her, tonight! Don't try to stop me, or tell any of the others. I don't want anything to happen to you either, so I think you better sleep with some of the others tonight."
"Fine Shinji, but if you get caught, it's your ass! I had nothing to do with it." she growled.
She got up and stalked off angrily. I shifted to Human form and checked my watch. 5:00 p.m. One more hour to wait.
