Page 2 of the Story of THE SHED!

Can't see the tape well, but I wear size 11 shoes and the ditch is 13 inches wide!

 Here it's 3' deep

It took me a 13 hour day to dig this footer ditch!

My hands are blistered! I shovelled ALL DAY!

These are the holes for the Center pillar supports!

6 of em all 2' deep with 10" bottoms!

It's hard to see, but site excavation is what's goin on here.

And so far, It's March 11th, D.P. & L is supposed to finally be turned on today (it'll be great having some electricity) I've had to spend almost $1,000 ($200 for the Ditch Witch, $100 for Electric Inspection Fee's and another $100 to D.P. & L. to get the Elec turned on. The rest just in wood, cement, screws, brackets, gasoline etc.

My first receipt says 4/24/300 so I guess I've been on it for 17 days so far.

These next few are of the foundation poured and in. Had just a little problem with it though. I gave the Guy at the concrete place the dimensions of the ditch, and he said I needed a yard....either he does lousy math or I got shorted because I need yet another same amount as he sent me the first time. I did get enough though to go ahead and lay a course of block on it to complete the foundation, but, as I dug the ditch crooked, I laid the forms straight, and it sure would look a whole lot better if I could just get another load.

As you can see...I'm a little short on having the concrete footing and foundation I first desired...anyway, I keep going on. Here's some shots of some of the inside work.

So far, I'm using the old wall to sit in the place of the new wall. If you look closely at the preceding photo you can see the chains I'm holding the old wall up with...remember, the old wall was only six feet high and the new one is 8.

The photo above you can see a wooden box. What's harder to make out though is that the box contains a window! Actually I have three of these huge windows (100" X 24") that I'd picked up from the trash a few years back and have been storing them ever since.

The quarters are cramped to say the least. I did have some luck at the local flea market last weekend though, I ran across a guy with a brand new (still in the sealed box) electric submersible water pump. The exact same pump (and control box) sells a the local Lowe's (aka Handyman Lumber store) for a little over $300 and I got them both for $150. Thank you Lord!

And now for a little change of pace....D.P. & L. finally came through with my electricity and now I'm finally able to use some of those wonderful hand tools I own. I finished making the frames for all of the 3 windows, put them in the North wall for storage, sheathed the West end of the North wall and threw on some old vinyl siding I had. I also installed a door and sheathed the area to the left of it. Oh yea, the windows, they won't stay where they are now, but it's just a good place to store them until I'm ready to use em.

I've still got a 20' ditch to dig for my water line, but them I'll be able to lay the floor joists for the addition. I also have to raise and replace the South wall so that my roof lAine will be correct for connecting the addition to the main shed. Tomorrow's another day. I started this project on April 24th, 2000...it's now May 21st. Am I slow or WHAT?
