Episode 20 What is Really Happening?


All faces turned towards Tikal, who looked like she'd seen a ghost.

"Tikal, do you know him?" Sonic asked.

"No, yes, I'm not sure," she shook her head.

"Shouldn't we get Knuckles here?" Tails asked.

"We haven't got time, I can't stop the video," Loki told them as Kintobor continued.

"Several years ago myself and my partner, Dr. Robotnik, unearthed the Mystic Ruins whilst searching for the legendary Chaos Emeralds. We did find one, but that was only the start of the wonders the main temple held. Two echidna children, little more than newborns, suspended in crystals, one male, one female. We couldn't beleive our good fortune, and in our extreme state, we kept all three discoveries secret from the rest of the team, it was Robotnik's idea, though to my shame I did not protest. I supose the scientist in me wanted to go public when we understood the reasons behind the encapsulation of these two, while the human part of me wanted to have the glory, I couldn't allow you to be taken from me.

"I named both of you, and kept you as we found you. From extensive studies of the records found with you, I discoverd that Tikal, you are descended from the royal family that ruled Echidnopolis, while Knuckles, you are from the Royal Protectors, knights that enforced the will of the rulers, and saw they came to no harm. Both of you were born in Echidnopolis, the place that is now the Mystic Ruins, just before it fell, and were suspended as they expected a cataclism, and they wanted the royal line to continue, and for it to have it's protectors.

"I was happy with this imformation, but Robotnik wanted more, wanted to revive both of you for 'testing'. I wouldn't let him, so without my knowledge he stole genetic material from you Tikal, and impregnated his wife with it. As his son grew I realised that neither one of them could be trusted with the secrets of the Echidna, so I stole both of you, hoping to keep you safe. I left this message here so that you could know the truth, if you ever wanted to. My only hope is that I am alive to see you both grow into the fine adults I know you will be, but I fear that Dr. Robotnik has over plans for me."

With that the messages came to an abrupt end, Tikal's birth certificate reappearing. Everyone turned to Tikal, who was crying softly.

"I remeber him, handing me to mom," Tikal said, "He smiled down at me, but so sadly."

"It's strange," D said as Loki hugged the echidna-girl, "Did you know you were adopted?"

"No," Tikal shook her head, "I never even thought about it."

"Are we sure we can trust Kintobor?" Loki asked.

"Of course!" Mina told him, "He was a pillar of the community."

"Who died in mysterious circumstances," Sonic filled in.

"You think Robotnik...?" Amy gasped.

"But Robotnik was a good man too!" Mina protested, "We really need to tell someone about this!"

"No way!" Loki shook his head, "We tell anyone, and Horatio has an excuse to come looking."

"Oh please, you can't let your little vedetta rule other people's lives."

"No, I'm saying that Tikal would be taken away and tested on, and while they're at it, they could find the Chaos Emeralds, definately not good."

"They don't belong to you, they are the treasures of the planet!" Mina was getting really annoyed now.

"Techincally they do belong to whoever found them," D tried to calm her.

"And I bet that Horatio doesn't even know she exists!"

"About Horatio," Tikal said nervously, "There's something you really need to know."


Horatio was in a lab with Koukan on a scanner, and Ame standing next to him, almost like a doll. he Had sent Fenrir to bed, telling them that one of them needed rest if they were going to keep the buisness running, and now he had a second Emerald, and someone who could use it, there was no way he'd be able to rest. Assuring the cat-boy that Ame was fully under his control left Fenrir no arguement, and he reluctantly left his boss.

That had been an hour ago, and testing had revealed that Koukan was no more active that Celestus was, and Horatio was begining to get frustrated.

"You know what's going on, don't you?" Horatio asked, accusingly, "And you'd be laughing at me now if only you could." He stood, and began to circle the wolf-guy. If it's not the gems, them maybe it's the weilder. I never believed that 'destiny' stuff, so maybe it's a genetic thing." He pushed Ame shirt off his shoulders, and it fell to the floor without either of them trying to stop it, and went to get a needle for a blood sample. He turned back and for the first time saw Ame's slim figure, barely hidden under a thin t-shirt. He carefully drew a sample, and started the testing before returning to his captive.

He casually undid Ame's jeans, and they too fell unaided to the floor. Horatio's hand slid under the t-shirt, and he gently stroked Ame's chest.

"Very nice," he smiled, before removing his hand and ripping the article down the front, pushing what remained off his shoulders, "Very nice indeed," he went on, kissing Ame's lips. He got no response, neither pushed away or pulled closer. He laughed to himself, and whispered in Ame's ear, "You are allowed to enjoy this." At the next kiss, the wolf-guy's lips parted, allowing his tongue entry, his own brushed past it. "Much better," Horatio said as they parted. One f his hands traced thge fur line on Ame's neck, along to his throat, while the other pinched his nipple allowing it to harden before moving to the next, urged on by Ame's moans of pleasure.

When both stood erect Horatio's attention turned back to what little Ame was left wearing, and slid the briefs down until they fell freely to his ankles. Ame stepped out of the pile of clothes at his feet, moving closer to Horatio, and reaching out to gently stroke his cheek.

"You're wearing too much," he said unbuttoning Horatio's shirt, until there was enough of a gap for him to slide his hand inside and lightly scrape his nails down the toned chest underneath, while pulling his captor into a kiss. He undid Horatio's belt next, undid the butoon and fly, and hooked his thumb inside the material of his boxers and pulled down both items just enough to expose his erection. He held it next to his cheek, kissed the base, and gently rubbed his face against the length, before standing, bringing their shafts together, pressing himself to Horatio, and gently rubbing himself, gasping at the friction he caused.

Horatio smiled, but not only from the attention, but the rareity. Fenrir was usually submissive, letting him take the initive, but Ame was somehow being agressively passive, letting Horatio be on top because that's what he wanted. Ame had managed to press himself even closer to Horatio, and was hungrily kissing his throat, chest and lips.

"I want you in me," Ame said, his voice hoarse with lust, and brooking no arguement. Even if Horatio had wanted to object, Ame didn't give him a chance, as he lifted himself, jumping slightly, and wrapping his legs around Horatio's waist, poisitioning himself just above his member. As Ame was holding onto Horatio's shoulders, it was left to Horatio to guide himself in. Gripping Ame's ass, both for supposrt, and to seperate the cheeks seemed like the best idea, and Horatio easilt slid into Ame, despite the fact that he was un-lubed, and had very little preperation. Ame was mainly unfeeling due to Horatio's influence, but he had been told to 'enjoy this' and was doing so. Making sure Horatio was having a good time too was also in his priorities, and he began lifting himself higher on Horatio as he pulled out, and dropping hard, hurting himself only fractionally in comparison to the pleasure he got. He crushed his mouth to Horatio's, barely a kiss, done to drown out his moans, which echoed massively from the sterile lab.

Horatio felt Ame tighten further around him, moments before he felt the wolf-guys seed on his chest. Surprisingly Ame didn't slow himself, and kept pace with Horatio's motion until he too was spent. Smiling seductivly, Ame unwrapped himself from Horatio, standing unsteadily for a second, before playfully licking Horatio's cheek, and handing him a shred of the t-shirt he could no longer wear, and saying,

"Clean yourself up, I think the blood tests done," and re-dressing.


No one had slept easy after the message from Kintobor, so when they arrived at Ame's for breakfast, and he wasn't around, questions would be unavoidable. Loki had realised this, and had gotten up early to talk to Luc, to sort out a story, and talk to him about yesterday.

"Why not just tell them the truth?" Luc asked, tired from working most of the night.

"Because Tikal is fragile enough, and I love her. If I tell her this, then she might get the wrong idea." Loki tried not to sound harsh when he went on, "It was a misake, but I still want to be friends."

"I understand," Luc nodded, "We could tell them I was with someone else."

"Paz knew we were up there together, he'd want to know why I didn't stop it."

"How about we just say he had to go out of town for a few days, something he couldn't get out of."

"Some family thing?"

"Wouldn't Paz know about it too though?"

"Then what?" Loki was getting desperate.

"I can't think," Luc sighed, rubbing his eyes, "Wait, he's part of that Psycic Friends Network."

"It'll do," Loki sighed, "Later, you look for him."

"Agreed," Luc said, starting breakfast.

The guys took the excuse, as they all had something on their minds. Tikal had called Knuckles, and he arrived early with Rouge and Scarlette in tow. They showed him the video , and for a few minutes after he didn't say anything. Finally he asked,

"Have you checked mine?"

"Not yet," D said, taking back her laptop. Minutes later she said, "Nothing unuasal, except it's a fake too."

"So our lives are just lies?" Knuckles asked Tikal.

"No, it's just we're not who we though we were. We are the same people, but just not related to our families."

"Should we really be discussing this infront of him?" Tails whispered, pointing to Shadow.

"S'all too deep for me," he shrugged, "How 'bout I just go out?"

"Good idea," Rouge smiled as he left.

"We need to get the files from the Kintobor building," D sighed, "which means going there in person. I just can't break the security."

"So we assualt it?" Sonic asked, "Bad idea, and made worse by the fact we're a man, and an Emerald down."

"It still leaves us with three," Loki pointed out.

"We should still wait until Ame gets back," Tails put in, "How long is he gone for?"


Shadow had been listening at the door outside, and smiled. Four Chaos Emeralds in total. That would be Koukan, Helios, and two others, and they were planning on attacking the Kintobor building wen they were back to full strength. If he could find a way in, he'd be assured their trust, or he could steal the Emeralds, hand them over to Metalix and Super Sonic, and team up with two he knew he could manipulate. All he needed to do was get into the other apartment while it was empty. Easy enough for someone with his education.

He walked over to the opposite door, and picked the lock. Knowing he didn't have much time, he searched quickly, but only found Aques.

"Where are the rest?" he asked himself. Helios was in Tails' room, he could get that when everyone went to school, Koukan was in Ame's backpack, so unreachable. That meant another one should be around somewhere. Unless it belonged to one of the others. That was the only possable explanation, and since he didn't know where any of the other lived, he'd have to make do with two. He quickly righted the room, then left the building, and waited a short distance away, just out of sight, but giving him a perfect veiw of the exit to Chaos Tower.

A schoolbus arrived, then left with most of the guys on board, then a few minutes later Luc left, getting into his cab, and pulling off. That meant that Loki and maybe Tikal were still around, as well as Felica and Paz, but those two were less of a worry. He rushed up to the apartment, and walked into Tails' room, and began looking. Helios was under the bed, pretty much where he'd left it. He laughed softly. Chaos Emeralds shouldn't be this easy to obtain. He shoved both in a bag, then made to leave. As he reached the door, he turned, walked over to a message pad, and left a note. It wouldn't do to cut his options.


Tails walked into the apartment, hoping not to find Shadow, but also hoping Ame had cut his trip short. Fortunately, Shadow wasn't home, but neither was Ame, or Luc. He looked around for a minute, and found Shadow's note, and read it aloud,

"I have information about getting into the Kintobor Building, but unfortuanately to comfirm it I have had to borrow two of your Chaos Emeralds as trading tokens. Hopefully the force of your other two Emeralds, plus the element of surprise, will allow you to overpower my former allies. Attack as a force at this address..."

It was followed by the address of the warehouse. Tails quickly ran to his room, and thoroughly searched it, finding Helios missing.

"Not good," he said to himself before running to Amy's, and knocking hard on the door. Loki answered quickly, and saw the urgent look on Tails' face.

"S'up?"

"Do you still have your Chaos Emerald?" Tails asked quickly.

"Sure. It's right over here. Huh?" Loki was surprised to find his backpack empty, "It should be here!"

"That's the two, so we still have three, if we can get in touch with Ame."

"What happened to my Emerald?" Loki asked, still hold the empty bag.

"Shadow. He found out about the Emeralds, and stole yours, and mine."

"Yours?" Amy asked.

"I found Helios. I'm not sure why I didn't tell you guys, but I didn't try to use it, I just found it."

"But you're sure it was a Chaos Emerald?" Tikal asked.

"Yeah, I'm not sure how I knew, but I was sure," Tails nodded, "So we need to get in touch with Knuckles and Sonic, and more importantly, Klonoa, Rouge, Scarlette and Ame."

"Why?"

"Shadow thinks we only have two other Emeralds, if we get Ame back, we'll have three, and be able to really throw him off."

"I think Luc has a contact number," Loki said, hoping that Luc wouldn't show up in time.


Ame was getting bored and restless. He had deminstrated his scrying, divination and empathic abilities, along with the more active telekenetic and energy powers, all the while Horatio was taking readings from both him and Koukan, getting Ame to repeat tests over and over if anything strange occured. Horatio had been quite excited by most of the results, and now walked into the test area, smiling.

"Very good. With these test results, I'm sure to figure out how to use Celestus."

"Yay you," Ame yawned, "Can I go now?"

"No. You're not only here as as test subject, but as a weapon, and a source of information. We're still being recorded, so tell me, what other advantages do your former friends have?"

"They work well as a team, can follow plans, and have three other Chaos Emeralds. Loki bears Aques, Rouge and Scarlette share Pyron, and Klonoa owns Gaiya."

"What? You had four Chaos Emeralds between you? What were you planning on doing with them?"

"Keep them away from people like you," Ame said, looking very bored.

He saw the guards at the door, and blew one a kiss, who blushed immedately. Horatio noticed, and sighed,

"Try to focus. Do they have control over the gems?"

"Pretty much, but it's not perfect."

"Explain."

"Both Rouge and Scarlette have to be in contact with Pyron to use her magic, and they have to be in tune with each other, it's a duality thing, and it's hard for them to maintain. They're sisters, and they don't always get on. Klonoa is scared to use Gaiya, it's too much for one so young, and he gets overwhelmed. Loki has it alomst down, but there is something you can use. His anger towards you."

"Keep going," Horatio said when Ame stopped.

"The Chaos Gods were good, helping the planet and it's people. You can't use their power with dark intentions, unless you're fully under the power. Finally, I can't maintain high levels of magic for too long. To do so, I have to be in contact with the Dark World, and it's.... it's....." Ame trailed off.

"I can understand that," Horatio nodded, seeing the pain in Ame's eyes, "So you can contact the dead?"

"Yes, but I don't, please don't aske me to."

"So my father does want revenge," Horatio said to himself. Thinking he was still talking to him, Ame answered,

"Yes, but he's not quite dead."


Klonoa had arrived at Tails' apartment last, a good half hour after Rouge and Scarlette. Luc hadn't returned, but they couldn't afford to wait any longer.

"We need a plan," Tails said, "They have two Chaos Emeralds, and so do we. We have to assume they can use them too, so it will be very dangerous."

"We should send our powerhouses in, while the rest of us launch a sneak attack," Knuckles told them.

"How do you feel about that?" Sonic asked Rouge, Scarlette and Klonoa.

"Sure," Rouge smiled, "We kick up a fuss, Loki swipes his back, and we get the advantage."

"I'm not sure," Klonoa said quietly, "Gaiya, I'm not sure I can use her safely."

"You have to try. We can't let people like Shadow's ex-friends control the power they have," Tikal said soothingly, "When the time comes you'll be fine."

"Suppose we can't trust Shadow, and he's set up an ambush," Amy asked, "What do we do then?"

"We'll still have the advantage," Loki told her, "They think we only have one Emerald."

"So maybe you should just send in one Emerald, with a couple of guys for back-up," D thought out loud, "If it is an ambush the rest of you can jump to rescue, and if not you surround them, and confuse them with an Emerald each side."

"I'll go in first," Klonoa volunteerd. He did want to have anyone relying on him, just in case.

"Right, now the last issuse," Knuckles said, cracking his knuckles, "Do we attack Shadow or not?"

"We see what he does, and if it's an ambush," Sonic said, "If I'm right about him, he wont act until he knows who's gonna win, then he'll back them up. Only go for him if he attacks first."

"Don't know about that," Loki smiled, "I'm a little miffed about being robbed."

"Well you should have left Aques in a safer place," Mina told him, "Or better still, given it to me, and it could be safe in a museum."

"It wouldn't have been safe in a museum," Loki started.

"We haven't got time for this!" Tikal interveined, "Get the Emeralds back, and then argue."

"This time, we're gonna finish it," Amy said, hoisting her mallet over her shoulder.


Shadow had kept the Chaos Emeralds close to him, while Super Sonic eyed them hungrily.

"So, how do we get into the Kintobor Building?"

"Where is Koukan?" Metalix asked.

"Ame dissappeared yesterday, and he always carries it with him. Now, about the Kintobor Building?"

"Are these the only other they had?"

"To my knowledge, yes. Now how do we get in?"

"You're sure?"

"Don't you trust me?" Shadow smiled.

"No," Metalix hissed, and produced a map, "The basement we were held in has sewer acess, and can easily be entered."

"Very good."

"Now let us have the Emeralds."

"Want power! Gimme! Gimme!"

Shadow just had to buy time now. he could always claim he didn't know about the other Emeralds, and he was a very good actor, and if the good guys won, he'd just say that his plan went perfectly. It was win win, but why did he feel so lousy?

"So you want to assault it now? But we're not prepared."

"Not up for it?" Metalix asked.

"If you hadn't noticed, these are new clothes, and I'm not crawling around a sewer in them."

"Ooooo," Super Sonic said, before laughing.

"We just thought that you'd want to get it as soon as possible, so we would each have a Chaos Emerald, just like we planned, unless you have a better idea?" "No, I agree, we need one each, but who gets what?"

"Don't want Aques. All wet!" Super Sonic mutterd.

"Then I'll take it," Metalix said, walking towards Shadow, "Super Sonic gets Helios."

"And what about me?" Shadow asked, puting himself between the Emeralds and his allies.

"I doubt you'll be able to use either of them, so it's pointless you keeping either."

"But I worked my ass off getting them!"

"And we thank you, but you're getting out of your league."

Metalix pushed Shadow out of the way, and reached for Aques.

"Get you rusty hands off my Emerald!" Shadow shouted.

"Funny, I thought that one was mine," Loki said from the doorway as Klonoa shouted,

"Gayia, awaken the Earth to throw off their balance!" A small tremor shok the building, and Loki ran forward.


at this point, i still don't know which side Shadow is gonna be on, but i'm sure it'll all work out.
