Corbett and Kin

Corbett is seated on the steps behind the school, waiting for the first bell to begin to day. His lips bear a heavy frown, his eyes are dull and hollow.
Kin walks up, slowing as she notices Corbett. "Oh...hello..."
Corbett raises his head wearily, he's obviously not in the best of moods, as well as deprived of sleep. "Oh. It's you."
Kin hms. "Thanks for the greeting."
Corbett lowers his head again, "Do you deserve a better one?"
Kin scowls. "I'm not that bad, am I?"
Corbett leans back against the steps, "I believe you are."
Kin clenches her fists. "Why do you hate me? I didn't do anything to you!"
Corbett shrugs, his painfully thin shoulders rising ever so slightly, "I don't need a reason."
Kin scowls. "You don't need a reason to hate someone? That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard...I even tried to help you and you still are acting like this?"
Corbett smiles strangely, "I'm the product of my environment. I can't be blamed for my actions. That's how they judge most criminals, isn't it?"
Kin scowls at him. "That still doesn't really give you a reason to hate me..."
Corbett shrugs, "Sure it does."
Kin sighs, looking up. "Does your life suck or something?"
Corbett laughs bitterly, spitting on the pavement. "You don't know the half of it."
Kin hms. "I don't know any of it. That why you're such a jerk? Because your life isn't perfect?"
Corbett shrugs again, not amused, "Perhaps."
Kin hns. "You could still be nice to people."
Corbett scowls, "And you could mind your own business."
Kin looks at him. "I could, but I'm not going to..I suppose you could say the same thing about what I just told you, though."
Corbett narrows his eyes, "What do you want from me?"
Kin looks at him. "Nothing...it just kinda bothers me that you're so mean to me...."
Corbett says, "I am because I choose to be."
Kin sighs. "That really is a pity..."
Corbett eyes her coolly, "Why do you say that?"
Kin hms. "Because..I mean we could be friends or something. Everyone needs at least one friend.."
Corbett scowls, "I don't need anybody..."
Kin looks at him. "I doubt that...everyone does..."
Corbett smiles, "Think what you will...I'm perfectly fine on my own."
Kin nods slowly. "Suit yourself then..."
Corbett brushes a placid lock of blonde from his eyes, "I don't trust you," he says flatly, "Not at all."
Kin cocks her head. "How come?"
Corbett's thin eyes narrow further, "Because there's something different about you...something not quite..." he shakes his head, then stands suddenly. "Stay away from me."
Kin blinks. "Uh....."
Corbett jams his hands into his pockets, "Unless you are willing to face the consequences."
Kin frowns. "What do you mean?"
Corbett turns his back on her, "What I mean....I think you of all people should know what I mean..." He half-turns to face her, his hollow eyes glimmering with an inhuman darkness.
Kin takes a small step back. "I don't understand..."
Corbett lifts one slender hand, a minuscule black orb of concentrated energy forming above his palm. "You'll see...oh, you'll see..." The darkness in his eyes is mirrored upon his expression, cruel and sadistic. ((Just another school morning.... ^^))
Kin's eyes widen. "What.....?" She takes a few steps backwards. "I.....didn't do anything..."
Corbett shifts his hand, the orb blasting toward her, smashing into the concrete at her feet. The stone shatters at it's touch, leaving a long, deep crack in the walk. "Not yet."
Kin falls backwards, her eyes wide. "Why are you doing this?!"
Corbett smiles, "Why you ask...?" he laughs again, short and dry. "Because I can."
Kin narrows her eyes. "You're crazy...."
Corbett shrugs, "It's not been proven yet...psychiatrists tend to hold their tongues when faced with certain...persuasions. But that's not important is it?"
Kin slowly stands. "Leave me alone...I've done nothing...."
Corbett ignores her words, "But if it's my medical record that concerns you so, I'll help you define it..." he pauses, thinking as if to quote a document, "Diagnosed with schizophrenia, depression, and paranoia....seen to possess violent tendencies..." He shrugs again. "They seemed about as impressed with me as you were. I can't say I'm pleased."
Kin swallows. "You don't have to act like this...you could have friends..and you wouldn't be so bitter then..."
Corbett laughs, craning his neck to look off in the direction of arriving students, "Hah. You think they'd accept me? You're sourly mistaken...little rich kid, right? Thinks he's to good for them, right? That's what they say. A freak. Psycho. Loser. You think I don't know exactly what they're all saying behind my back?"
Kin sighs. "Not all people are like that you know..and if you acted nicer...they wouldn't act like that..."
Corbett snatches his books from the steps, "You're so naive...I've never done anything to them...People don't react to reason. They hate me. They've hurt me...again.." he narrows his eyes, "And again..." his body is shuddering slightly, "And again. But not anymore. Now...now things are going to be different." ((*makes the crazy sign...*))
Kin shrugs. "So you've only been around idiots. That doesn't mean everyone is like that. I don't talk about you behind your back.."
Corbett laughs, "I know not everyone think of me that way...I'm not so foolish to believe that...The rest don't even know I'm alive. To them, I'm nothing. A nameless, faceless person...and that's what I want...to be without identity....would make you completely free."
Kin shakes her head. "But why would you want to be like that? That would make life unbearable...and...there wouldn't even be a point -to- living if you were nothing..."
Corbett's icy optics meet Kin's, "There's no point to live life now."
Kin gazes back at him, shaking her head slowly. "I pity you..."
Corbett's eyes narrow, "I don't want your pity."'
Kin hms. "I never asked you if you did."
Corbett tenses, "Don't mess with me."
Kin frowns. "I don't understand you...."
"No one does."
Kin sighs. "That's only because you won't let them.."
Corbett shakes his head, "You're wrong...very wrong. I could never take away that ability...there's a way to unravel every secret and lie...every truth and every meaning. The challenge is finding one who can. Not something I care to do."
Kin sighs. "But why? Why are you so set on being solitary?"
Corbett smiles, "Cause all of you...little fools...you're in his way..." With this, he turns his back to her, preparing to depart.
Kin growls. "What do you mean?!"
Corbett walks off, his sneakers making silence upon the pavement. "You'll see...when the time comes, you'll see..." he turns his head, offering a strange smile and wink, "Ciao."
