"You're thinking of something kinky right now, aren't you?!" - The Tenchi Muyo! Ryoohki section. |
My latest obbession comes in the form of the successful animé series "Tenchi Muyo! Ryoohki". The name basically translates into "No Need for Tenchi!" or "Useless Tenchi!" (this name is due to Tenchi being eclipsed in the animé and more specifically the manga even though he is the "main character"). The obbession was brought around by the Cartoon Network showing a slah/cut version of the OVA (Original Video Animation) and the first TV show in the UK. I had watched animé's before (Dragon Ball Z, Sonic the Hedgehog: OVA and Mobile Suit: Gundam Wing) but I really didn't had a large interest in it. To me it was just something fun to watch on some odd occassion. That was, until the 5th of Febuary 2001, the day that Ryoko Resurrected was first aired in the UK. At first Tenchi wasn't really that ground breaking for me, but it was interesting enough for me to keep watching. And it wasn't until episode 5 (Kagato Attacks) when I had actually ordered my sister out of the room when it came on, that I realised that Tenchi Muyo! was my anti-drug. I needed more. It was then my mission to get every piece of Tenchi merchindise I could get my grubby little hands on. The first thing to do was to start telerecording the episodes onto videotape (I actually started recording from Episode 7 - Part One - The Night Before the Carnival, I don't know why I didn't start recording from Episode 6 - We Need Tenchi!, it was probably due with some tape trouble or something). Around 3 months have passed now and seeing as I've only been obbessed for that amount of time, I think I've done very well for myself. 9 volumes of manga graphic novels, a Ryoko keyring, 5 tapes of telerecorded Cartoon Network transmissions and 3 Tenchi manga comics. This by all means, is not cheap. Infact, Tenchi has also introduced me to how very expensive collecting animé is. But all in all it is most defiantly worth it. Oh yes, it is, as you will learn soon enough. "I am fan boy, hear me roar" - Yup, this a complete list of what Tenchi stuff I have obtained over the short time I have been a Tenchi fan boy. Not really for the public, but really for me to remind me what I need to nab. Reflections - I reflect and review the episodes of Tenchi Muyo! Ryoohki and Tenchi Muyo! TV series. The different attitudes, emotions and feelings I have towards the characters, the plots and the settings. Expect some emotional outburts here, because I take my obbessions way too seriously. ^_^ Tenchi Muyo cuts - A list of cuts in Tenchi Muyo!. Back to the slug fest! |
