Back to back losses

Beaver Dam

GLEN ROSE - The Lady Beavers and the Beavers suffered through back-to-back losses on Thursday and Friday night. Thursday Woodlawn came to Beaver Gymnasium and squeeked out a couple of wins, and on Friday the Beavers travelled to Ouachita.

On Thursday night at Beaver Stadium the junior girls played in the first game with Woodlawn. They were all over Woodlawn defensively and ended up winning the game 29-16.

In senior girls action, it would be a hard-fought game the whole way, including the Lady Beavers losing two of their players due to injury in the process. Juniors Christian Cruce (knee) and Meredith Frasier (ankle) will miss the next couple of games due to the injuries they suffered. Cruce could be out for the season, with a possible torn anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee, she missed games late in the season last year when she tore the ACL in her right knee. Frasier hurt her ankle and could be back in a few days.

Besides all the injuries, the game stayed close all the way until the final buzzer, when Woodlawn prevailed with a 50-45 win, in the Lady Beavers first loss of the year.

The final game of the night featured the senior boys. Last season the Beavers tore into Woodlawn and got a 62-44 win. This season, the Beavers with only one returining starter, are a completely different story, early, anyway.

The Beavers came out flat. Shots were not falling from anywhere for the Beavers, and despite the poor shooting by the Beavers they managed to stay in the game, and had a chance to win with four minutes left. But it was too little, too late as Woodlawn held on for the 28-23 win.

On Friday the senior high teams were looking to turn things around one day after they both lost.

The junior boys were looking for their first win on Friday, and they found it as they defeated Ouachita handily.

The Ouachita Lady Warriors are a great team, that goes deep into the playoffs year in, and year out. The Lady Beavers, while they are looking much improved this season, proved to be not too much for the Lady Warriors, as they pulled away in the second half and put the game out of reach for Glen Rose. The Lady Beavers drop to 1-2 with the loss.

One day after the horrendous shooting peformance the Beavers displayed, they came out Friday a little more on top of their game. The Beavers still haven't played as well as they did in the first week of the season, but they did play better than Thursday night's performance, and had a great chance to win the game, but couldn't get it done. They drop to 1-3 overall with the 46-31 loss.

Next up for the senior high teams are two more back to back games on Monday and Tuesday. Monday, Sparkman will come to Beaver Gymnasium. The Lady Beavers handily defeated Sparkman 57-33 a week ago, while the senior boys fell by ten in a close game. On Tuesday the conference season starts when Cutter Morning Star comes for a visit.
