SYLLABUS YI-338 METHODOLOGY 2 2000-01 Academic Year GOAL: By the end of the course students will be able to teach Receptive and Productive skills to EFL learners, and to produce, use, and evaluate the related materials. OBJECTIVES: 1. Students will build upon their background knowledge about current methods, techniques and materials in ELT, and will be encouraged to evaluate critically the principles upon which they are based. 2. Students will be able to teach and use alternative ways of Recevtive and Productive Skills in ELT, and to make critical evaluation of their relevance to and possibilities for different contexts. 3. Students will be provided guidance and support for the exploration of the roles and potential of the teacher and learner, the strategies and management of the teacher during microteaching. 4. Students will be able to plan, present and evaluate alternative methods, techniques and materials while teaching Receptive and Productive skills. 5. Students will be encouraged individually for conceptual development through research projects, observation, classroom presentation, self-evaluation and reflection. COURSE EVALUATION: Material EVALUATION + PRODUCTION + PRESENTATION (microteaching) 30% Mid-term: 20% Final: 25% Project: 25% Project Subject: Students are required to prepare 4 units with reading, writing, speaking, listening activities for the books used by the K-12 State schools. Texts will be provided by the teacher at the beginning of the term. Projects will be delivered in Final Exam. PRESENTATION SUBJECTS: 1. Reading 2. Listening 3. Writing 4. Speaking REQUIREMENTS of THE COURSE: For this course each student will be required to: 1.ATTEND CLASS REGULARLY. Attend class regularly and participate in discussions. You are expected to contribute to class discussions and to be prepared for every assignment. 2.DON'T BE LATE. Two tardies and/or early departures is equal to one absence. 3.COMPLETE ASSIGNMENTS. Satisfactorily complete periodic assignments. Complete readings/articles prior to class. Assignments after DEADLINES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED! 4.Create an INDIVIDUAL PROJECT: Create an integrated thematic learning project. This assignment is due progressively, but must be complete by final exam. 5. Class participation is vital. I expect you to contribute to class discussions and to be prepared for every assignment. 6. Every student will have an email account to submit their weekly assignments. 7.Complete other activities assigned by instructor and not noted here. 8.Have fun!
