Writing Activity No. 48
How the Computer Began
Computers are found everywhere-- in offices, schools, and homes. Do you know how the computer began? Go to your school library or search the Internet to find out who are these people who played significant roles in the development of the computer-- Charles Babbage, Konrad Zuse, John Atanasoff and Clifford Berry, Howard Aiken, John Mauchly, and J. Presper Eckert.
One of the more exciting uses of the computer is to surf the Internet. You can access almost all of the information you want from all over the world and even have a printout of data through a printer that is connected to the computer accessing the Internet.
If you are an avid Internet surfer, can you write about how your experience is benefiting you in your studies and growth as a person? Can you write about your thoughts and feelings when you first used the computer, when you explored the Internet for the first time, your intense moments when you first used the email and chat programs…?
