The Acromantula is a monstrous eight-eyed
spider capable of human speech. It originated in Borneo, where it inhabits
dense jungle. Its distinctive features include the thick black hair
that covers its body; its leg span, which may reach up to fifteen feet;
its pincers, which produce a distinctive clicking sound when the Acromantula
is excited or angry; and a poisonous secretion. The Acromantula is carnivorous
and prefers large prey. |
It spins dome-shaped webs upon the ground. The
female is bigger than the male and may lay up to one hundred eggs at
a time. Soft and white, these are large as beach balls. The young hatch
in six to eight weeks. Acromantula eggs are defined as Class A Non-Tradable
Goods by the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures,
meaning that severe penalties are attached to their importation or sale.
|
This beast is believed to be wizard-bred, possible intended to guard
wizard dwelling or treasure, as is often the case with magically created
monsters.Despite its near-human
intelligence, the Acromantula is untrainable and highly dangerous
to wizard and Muggle alike. Rumours that a colony of Acromantula
has been established in Scotland and are unconfirmed. Newt Scamander

The Ashwinder is created when a magical fire is allowed to burn
unchecked for too long. A thin, pale-grey serpent with glowing red eyes, it
will rise from the embers of an unsupervised fire and slither away into
the shadows of the dwelling, in which it finds itself leaving an ashy
trail behind it.
|
The Ashwinder only lives for an hour and during that time
seeks a dark secluded spot in where to lay its eggs, after which collapse
into dust. Ashwinder eggs are brilliant red and give off intense heat.
They will ignite the dwelling whithin minutes if not found and frozen
with a suitable charm. Any wizard realising
|
that one
or more Ashwinders are loose in the house must trace them immediatley
and locate the nest off eggs. Once frozen, these eggs are of great
value for use in love potions and may be eaten whole as a cure
for ague. Ashwinders are found worldwide. Submitted

AUGUREY
A
native of Britain and Ireland, the Augurey is a thin and morbid
looking bird, greenish-black in color and looks something like an
underfed vulture. They are extremely shy and you will mostly find
their tear shaped nests in bramble and thorns. Their diet consists
of large insects and fairies. They fly only in heavy rain. The
Augurey has a |
distinctive low and throbbing cry which was once believed
to foretell death. Wizards would avoid the nests of an Augurey for
fear of hearing the cry. There have been reports of Wizards having
a heart attack after accidently stumbling upon a nest and hearing
that heart-wrenching wail.
Indepth research by Uric the Oddball has proven that the |
Augureys'
cry merely signals that rain is approaching.
This information has made the Augurey a popular weather forecaster,
although most find it difficult to head the constand moaning during
the winter months.
Augurey feathers are useless as quills because they repel ink.

Banshee or 'Bean-sidhe' is Irish for fairy
woman. Her sharp, cries and wails are also called 'keening'. The English
word 'Keen' is from the Irish 'Caoineadh' meaning lament.
There is no
harm or evil in her mere presence, unless she is seen in the act of crying;
but this is a fatal sign. The wail of a banshee pierces the night, it's
notes rising and falling like the waves of the sea, it always announces
a mortal's death. She is solitary woman fairy, mourning and forewarning
those only of the best families in Ireland, those with most ancient Celtic
lineages. Those whose names begin with 'Mac/Mc' or 'O', whose origin dates
from the time of the Irish heroes. The banshee loves the old mortal families
with a fierce and unearthly caring. |
When a member of
the beloved race is dying, she paces the dark hills about his house.
She sharply contrasts against the night's blackness, her white figure
emerges with silver-grey hair streaming to the ground and a grey-white
cloak of a cobweb texture clinging to her tall thin body. Her face
is pale, her eyes red with centuries of crying. But this is not
the only way that the banshee appears, at other times she is seen
as a beautiful young girl, with long, red-golden hair, and wearing
a green kirtle and scarlet mantle, broached with gold, after the
Irish fashion. Or she will appear shrouded and muffled in a dark,
mist-like cloak.
White Lady of Sorrow some people name her, and Lady of
Death. |
She is the Woman of Peace and the Spirit of the Air. For despite
her wailing, she is somehow graced with a manner of peace. Unseen, banshees
attend the funerals of the beloved dead. Although, sometimes she can be
heard wailing, her voice blending in with the mournful cries of others.
Each banshee has her own mortal family. Out of love she follows the old
race across the ocean to distant lands. Her wails or keen can be heard
in America and England, wherever the true Irish have settled. But they
never forget their blood ties; and neither does she (Banshees don't really
seem like creatures, but after all, they are magical) Professor Kay |
BASILISK
The
first recorded Basilisk was bred by Herpo the Foul, a Greek Dark
Wizard and Parselmouth, who discovered after many experiments that
a chicken egg that was hatched beneath a toad would produce a giant
serpent that possessed extraordinaryly dangerous powers. Basilisks
are a brilliant green in color and can grow up to fifty feet in
length. The male Basilisk has a scarlet plume on its head. Although they have |
extremely venomous fangs
the Basilisks most effective weapon is its large yellow eyes. Anyone who gazes directly into its eyes will suffer instant
death. They eat most things, all mammals, birds and even most reptiles. They live to a great a, it's rumoured that Herpo the Foul's
Basilisk lived to nine hundred years. The
creation of Basilisks has been illegal since medievil times, although some Dark Wizards manage
to escape |
indepth investigation by the Department for the Regulation
and Control of Magical Creatures, by simply removing the chicken
egg from underneath the toad when a representitve comes by.
However, since Basilisks are uncontrollable except by Parselmouths,
they are as dangerous to Most Dark Wizards as to anybody else.
There have been no sightings in Britain for four hundred years.

BILLYWIG
The
Billywig is an insect that originated in Australia. It is about
one inch long, and is a vivid saphire blue in color. They move so
fast however, that they are rarely noticed by anyone until they
have been stung. The Billywig's wings are attached to the top of
its head and rotate so fast that it spins as it flies. |
At the bottoms of it's body is a ling thin needle-like sting and those
who are stung often suffer from giddiness, followed by levitation. Many Australian Witches and Wizards have attempted
to catch Billywigs and provoke the into stinging, so that they may enjoy these side-effects, but too
many stings can |
result in the victim hovering uncontrollably for days, and
some severe allergic reactions can result in permanent floating. Dried Billywig stings
are used in several potions and are believed to be a component in the popular Fizzing Whizbees.

BOWTRUCKLE
A Bowtruckle
is a tree guardian found in Western England, Southern Germany and
certain Scandinavian Forests. They are only around 8 inches tall,
and being that they are made of bark and twigs, they blend into
the trees, therefore making them very difficult to see.
|
They are
peaceable creatures who eat mainly insects, but should the tree
that it is living in be threatened, it will become agressive, leaping
down onto the tree cutter, in an attempt to gouge out their eyes
with their long sharp fingers.
This might leave you

wondering how we
get the wood for our wands.
A Bowtruckle can be distracted by
offering it woodlice. This will give a witch or wizard enough
time to remove the small amount of wood that they need.

they will scuttle away on their many legs. They are known to feed
on dirt.
A Scouring Charm will rid a house of an infestation of Bumdimuns,

CHIZPURFLE
Chizpurfles
are small parasites up to a twentieth of an inch high. They have
fangs and resemble a crab in apperance. They are attracted by magic
and may infest the fur and feathers of creatures such as Crups and

objects such as wands, gradually gnawing |
their
way through to the magical core. They are also known to settle in
the bottom of cauldrons, where they will gorge upon any lingering
drops of potion. In the absence of magical items, they will attack
electrical objects.
Although Chizpurfles are easy to destroy with a number of

patented
potions on the market, severe infestations may require the assistance
of the Pest Sub-Division of the Department for the Regulation and
Control of Magical Creatures, as Chizpurfles that have been swollen
with magical substances are very difficult to fight. Newt Scamander |
CLABBERT
This
is a tree-dwelling creature that looks something like a monkey crossed
with a frog. It originated in the southern states of America, altho
it is now found worldwide. They have mottled green skin that is
smooth and hairless, their hands and feet are webbed, and their
arms and legs are long and supple, allowing the Clabbert to swing
in between the branches of trees, as would an orangutan. They |
have short horns on their head and a wide mouth, which always
seems to be grinning, showing a mouth full of razor-sharp teeth.
They feed mostly on small lizards and birds.
The Clabberts most distinctive feature is the large pustule in
the middle of its forehead. This is a warning device that turns
scarlet and flashes
when they sense danger. These were once
|
used in Wizard gardens to
warn of nearing Muggles, but the International Confederation of
Wizards has introduced fines which have ended this practice. The
sight of a tree at night full of glowing pustules attracted too
much Muggle attention, leaving them wondering why their neighbours
had their Christmas lights up in June. Newt Scamander |
CRUP
The
Crup originated in the southeast of England. It closely resembles
a Jack Russell terrier, except it has a forked tail. The Crup is
almost certainly a Wizard dog, as it is intensely loyal to Wizards
and ferocious towards Muggles. It
is a scavenger that eats anything |
from gnomes to old tyres. Crup licences can be obtained from the
Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures after the completion
of a simple test to prove that the applicant wizard is capable of
|
controlling the Crup while in the presence of Muggles. Owners are
legally obliged to removed the tail with a painless severing charm
when the Crups is six to eight weeks old, incase Muggles should
notice it. Newt Scamander |

Originating

bird. With the ability to vanish in a puff of feathers and reappear
elsewhere, they are very capable of escaping danger. An ability
that is shared only by the |

Muggles were once fully aware of its existance, althought they called
it the Dodo bird. Muggles, being unaware if the Diricawls ability

dangers of slaying their fellow creatures, the International Confederation

The
Erumpent is a very large, grey colored beast, found in Africa. They
have great power, and can weigh as much as a tonne. Often they are
mistaken for a rhinocerios at a distance. It has a thick hide that
most charms and curses bounce off of, a large sharp horn on it's
nose and a long rope-like tail. They give birth to only one calf
at a time. |
The
Erumpent will not attack unless they are provoked, but in the event
that it does charge, the results are catastrophic. Their horn can
pierce everything from skin to metal, and contains a deadly fluid
which will cause whatever is injected with it to explode. The Erumpent numbers are not great, as males

The Fairy

wings, which may be transparent or muti-colored,

Originally
from Scandinavia, the Horklump is now widespread through Northern

wiry black bristles. A
prodigious breeder, the Horklump will cover an average garden in

The
Imp, found only in Britain and Ireland, is often confused with the Pixie. They
are both between six to eight inches high, and both have the same slapstick sense of humour.
The Imp however, cannot fly, nor is it |

vividly colored (they are usually dark brown or black). It's preferred
terrain is damp and marshy areas, usually around river banks, where
it will amuse itself by pushy and tripping unwary people. |

though Imps do not spin cocoons. The young are hatched fully formed
at around one inch high. Newt Scamander |
The

run out, draining the Kappa of its strength. Newt Scamander |
This
water demon, which is found in British and Irish waters, can take

From
Northern Europe and America, the Knarl is usually mistaken for a
hedgehog by Muggles. The two species are indeed indistinguishable
except for one important difference in their behaviour: If food
is left out in the |
garden
for a hedgehog, it will accept and enjoy the gift, however, if food
is offered to a Knarl in the same fashion, the Knarl will only assume
that the householder is trying to lure it and trap it, and will
savage the householders |
garden plants and ornaments. Many Muggle children have been accused
of vandalism when an offended Knarl was the real culprit.

The Kneazle was originally bred in Britain, though it is

takes a liking to a witch or wizard, it makes an excellent pet. The
Kneazle has an uncanny ability to detect unsavoury or suspicious characters
and can be relied upon to guide it's owner safely home if they are

Kneazle are sufficiently unusual in appearance to attrace Muggle interest. Submitted by Chloe Kinston

Also
known as Clauricorn, the Leprechaun is more intelligent than a Fairy,
and less malicious than the Imp, the Pixie and the Doxy. They are
nevertheless still mischievous. Found only in Ireland, they usually
grow to a height of six inches, and is green in color. It has been
known to create its clothing from leaves. Although L |

Mercifully,
the Lethifold is a rare creature, found only in tropical climates.
It resembles a black cloak, around half an inch thick, (thicker
if it has recently killed and digested a victim). which glides along
the ground at night. The earliest account we have of the Lethifold
was written by the Wizard Flavuis Belby, who |
was
lucky enough to survive a Lethifold attack in 1782 while vacationing
in Papa New Guinea.
You can read his account of it in Encounters
With Very Dangerous Creatures.
As Belby so dramatically reveals, the Patronus is the only spell known to repel the |
Lethifold.
However, as it generally attacks the sleeping, its victims rarely
have a chance to use any magic against it. Once its prey has been
successfully suffocated, it will digest its food right there in
the victims bed. It then leaves the house, slightly thicker than
before, leaving no trace of itself or the victim behind. Newt Scamander |
The
Lobalug is found at the bottom on the North Sea. It is a simple
creature, ten inches ling, comprising of a rubbery spout and a venom |

The
Macalaw is a land-dwelling creature that is found mostly on rocky
coastlines around Europe. Despite its passing resemblance to Lobsters,
it should never be eaten, as its flesh is unfit for human consumption,
which will result in a high fever and an |
ugly
green rash.
The Macalaw can grow to a length of twelve inches, and is a light
grey color, with deep-green spots. It eats small crustaceans and
will attempt to tackle prey that is bigger than itself. The Macalaw's
bite has an odd side effect,
|
making
the victim extremely unlucky for around a week after the injury.
If you are bitten by a Macalaw, all bets, wagers and speculative
ventures should be cancelled, as they are sure to go against the
victim.

The
Manticore is a highly dangerous Greek beast with the head of a man,
the body of the Lion and the tail of a |
Scorpion. As dangerous and
as rare as the Chimera, the Manticore is reputed to croon softly
as it devours its prey.
|
Manticore skin repels almost all known charms, and the sting causes
instant death. Newt Scamander |
Also
known as Sirens, Selkies and Merrows, Merpeople exist throughout
the world. They vary in apperance almost as much as humans do. Their
habits and customs remain as mysterious as those of the Centuar,
though those Wizards who have mastered the language of Mermish,
speak of highly organised |
communities,
varying in size according to habitat, and some have elaborately
contructed dwellings. Like the Centuars, the Merpeople have declined
"being" status in favour of a "beast" classification.
The oldes recorded Merpeople were known to as Sirens, and it
is in warmer
|
waters
that we find the beautiful Mermaids so frequently depicted in Muggle
literature and paintings. The Selkies of Scotland and the Merrows
of Ireland are less beautiful, but they share that love of music
which is common to all Merpeople.

The
Moke is a silver-green lizard reaching up to ten inches in length,
and is found right through Britain and Ireland. It has the ability
to shrink at will and therefore |
has
never been noticed by Muggles.
Moke skin is highly prized among wizards for use as moneybags,
and purses, as
|
the
scaly material will contract at the approach of a stranger, just
as the Moke does. Moke-skin moneybags are therefore very difficult
for theives to locate. Newt Scamander |
The
Mooncalf is an incredibly shy creature that emerges from their burrows,
found worldwide, only at the full moon. It's body is smooth and
pale grey, it has bulging round eyes on top of its head, and four
spindly legs with enormous flat feet. Mooncalves perform |
complicated
dances on their hind legs in isolated area in the moonlight. These
are believed to be a prelude
to mating, and often leave intricate geometric patterns behind
in wheat field, to the great puzzlement of Muggles.
Watching Mooncalves dance by
moonlight is a fascinating
|
experience, and often profiable, for
is their silvery dung is collected before the sun rises and spread
on magical herbs and flower beds, the plants will grow very fast
and become extremely strong. Newt Scamander |
Residing
in the coastal areas of Britain, this ratlike creature has a growth
upon its back resembling a Sea Anemone. When pickled and |
eaten,
the Murtlap promotes resistance to curses and jinxes, although an
overdose might result in unsightly purple eat hair. Murtlaps eat |
crustaceans
and the feet of anyone fooish enough to step on them. Newt Scamander |
The
Niffler is a British beast. With a fluffy back and long snout, this
burrowing creature has a predilection for anything glittery. Nifflers
are often kept by Goblins to |
burrow
deep into the earth for treasure. Though the Niffler is gentle and
even affectionate, is can be destructive to belongings and should
never be kept in a house. |
Nifflers
live in lairs up to twenty feet below the surface and produce six
to eight young in a litter.

work. It stay alive as long as |
it can eat, or feed off the essence of
human souls.

Nogtails
are deoman found in rural area all across Europe, Russia and America.
They look like stunted piglets with long legs, thick, stubby tails
and narrow black eyes. The Nogtail will creep into a sty and suckle
an ordinary sow |
alongside
her own young. The longer the Nogtail is left undetected and the
bigger it grows, the longer the blight on the farm into which it
has entered. The Nogtail is exceptionally fast and difficult to
catch, though if chased |
beyond the boundaries of a farm by a pure white dog, it will never
return. The Department in the Regulation and Control of Magical
Creatures keeps a dozen albino bloodhounds for this purpose. Newt Scamander |
This
East African beast is arguably the most dangerous in the world.
A gigantic leopard that moves |
silently despite it size and whose
breath causes disease virulent enough to eliminate entire villages,
it has never |
yet been subdued by fewer than a hundred skilled Wizards
working together. Newt Scamander |
The
Occamy is found in the Far East and India. A plumed, two legged
winged creature with a serpentine body, the Occamy can reach |
a
length of fifteen feet. It feed mainly on rats and birds, though
it has been known to carry off monkeys. The Occamy is aggressive
to all |
who
approach it, particularly in defence of its eggs, whose shells are
made of the purest, softest silver. Newt Scamander |
A
magnificently scarlet colored bird, that looks somwhat like a swan,
the Phoenix has a long golden tail, beak and talons. It nests in
the mountain peaks for Egypt, India and China. They live to an immense
age, as they can regenerate, |
bursting into flames when its body begins
to fail, and rising again from the ashes as a chick. The Phoenix
is an extremely gentle creature, that has never been known to kill,
and eats only herbs. Similar to the diricawl, the Phoenix can disappear
and |
reappear at will. Their song is reputed to increase the courage
of the pure of heart and to strike fear into
the hearts of the impure. Pheonix tears have powerful healing properties. Newt Scamander |
The
Pixie is found mostly in Cornwall, England. Electric blue in color
and up to eight inches in height, these little creatures are extremely
mischievous. They delight in |
tricks and practical jokes of all kinds.
Although they are wingless, they can fly and have been known to
seize unwary humans by the ears and deposit them at the |
top of tall
tress and buildings. Pixies produce a high-pitched jabbering intelligible
only to other Pixies. They bear live young. Newt Scamander |
The
Plimy is a spherical, mottled fish distinguished by its two long
legs ending in webbed feet. They inhabit deep lakes where they will
prowl the bottom in search of food, preferring to eat |
water snails.
The Plimy is not overly dangerous, though it will nibble the feet
and clothing of swimmers. It is considered a pest by Merpeople,
who deal with them by tying their rubbery |
legs in a knot; the Plimy
then drifts away, unable to steer, and cannot return until it has
untied itself, which can take hours. Newt Scamander |
The
Pogrebin is a Russian demon, barely a foot tall, with a hairy body,
but a smooth, oversized grey head. When crouching, the Pogrebin
looks like a shiny round rock. Pogrebins are attracted to humans
and enjoy tailing them, staying in their shadows and crouching |
quickly
should the shadow's owner turn around. If
a Pogrebin is allowed to tail a human for many hours, a sense of
great futility will overcome its prey, who will eventually fall
into a state a lethargy and despair. When the victim stops walking
and sink to their knees to weep at |
the pointlessness of it all,
the Pogrebin will leap upon them and attemp to devour them. However,
it is easy to repulse the Pogrebin with simple hexes or Stupefying
Charms. Kicking has also been found effective. Newt Scamander |
The
Porlock is a horse guardian found in Dorset, England, and in Southern
Island. Covered in shaggy fur, it has a large quantity of rough
hair on it's head and an exceptionally large nose. |
It
walks on two cloven feet, their arms small and ending in four stubby
fingers. Fully grown Porlocks are around two feet high, and feed
on grass.
The Porlock is shy and lives |
only
to guard horses. They may be found curled in the straw of stables
or else sheltering in the midst of the herd it protects. Porlocks
mistrust all humans, always hiding at their approach. Newt Scamander |
Found
world-wide, Puffskeins are spherical in shape and covered in soft,
custard colored fur. They are docile creatures, that don't mind
being thrown around, and love to be cuddled. They are extremely easy to look after, |
and will often make a low humming
sound when happy. They have a long snake-like tongue that will often snake through
the house looking for food. Puffskeins will eat anything, including spiders, |
but
they have a special liking for bogies, often sticking their tongue
up the nose of a sleeping witch or wizard.
The Puffskein is a highly popular wizarding pet. Newt Scamander
|
The
Quintaped, also known as Hairy MacBoon, is a highly dangerous carnivorous
beart with a particular liking for humans. Its low-slung body is
covered with thick reddish-brown hair as are its five legs, each
of which ends in a clubfoot. The Quintaped is founf only upon the
Isle of Drear off the northernmost tip of Scotland. Drear has been
made unplottable for this reason.
Legend has it that the Isle of Drear was once populated by two
Wizarding families, the McCliverts and the MacBoons. A drunken
Wizarding duel between Dugald, chief of the clan McClivert, and
Quintius, head of the clan MacBoon, is supposed to have led to
the
|
death of Dugald. In retaliation, a gang of McCliverts
surrounded the MacBoon dwellings one night and Transfigured each
and every MacBoon into a monstrous five legged creature. The McCliverts
realised too late that the Transfigured MacBoons were infinately
more dangerous in this state (the MacBoons had a reputation for
great ineptitude at magic). To make matters worse, the MacBoons
resisted every attempt to turn then back into human form. The monsters
killed all of the McCliverts until no human remained on the island.
It was only the that the MacBoon monsters reaslised that in the
absence of anyone to wield a wand, they would
|
be forced to remain
as monsters forever.
Whether this tale is true or not
will never be known. Certainly there are no surviving McCliverts
or MacBoons to tell us what happened to their ancestors. The Quintapeds
cannot talk and have strenuously resisted every attempt by the Department
for the Regulations and Control of Magical Creatures to capture
a specimen and try to untransfigure it, so we must assume that if
they are indeed, as their nickname suggests, Hairy MacBoons, they
are quite happy to live out their days as beats. Newt Scamander |
The
Ramora is a silver fish found in the Indian Ocean. Powerfully magical,
it can anchor ships and is a |
guardian of seafarers. They are highly
valued by the International Confederation of Wizards, which has
set |
many laws
in place to protect the Ramora from Wizard poachers.
Newt Scamander |
These
dwarf-like creatures live in holes on old battlegrounds or wherever
human blood has been spilled. Although easily |
repelled by charms
and hexes, they are very dangerous to solitary Muggles, whom they
will attempt to bludgeon to |
death on dark night. Red Caps are most
prevalent in northern Europe. Newt Scamander |
The
Re'em is an extremely rare giant Oxen with golden hides. They are
found both in the wilds of North America |
and the Far East. Re'em
blood gives the drinker immense strength, though the difficulty
in procuring it |
means that supplies are negligible and rarely for
sale on the open market. Newt Scamander |
Originating
in the small African country of Burkina Faso, this three headed
serpent commonly reaches a length of six or seven feet. Livid orange
with black stripes, the Runespoor is only too easy to spot, so the
Ministry of Magic in Burkina Faso has designated certain forests
unplottable for the Runespoor's sole use.
The Runespoor, though not in itself a particularly vicious beast,
was once a favourite pet of Dark Wizards, no doubt because of
its striking apperance. It is to the writings of Parselmouths
who have kept and conversed |
with
these serpents that we owe our understanding of their curious habits.
It transpires from the records that each of the Runespoor's heads
serves a different purpose. The left head (as seen by the Wizard
facing the Runespoor) is the planner. It decides where the Runespoor
is to go and what it is to do next. The middle head is the dreamer
(Runespoors may remian stationary for days at a time, lost in glorious
visions and imaginings). The right head is the critic and will evaluate
the efforts of the left and middle heads with a continual irritable
hissing. The right head's fangs are |
extremely venomous. The Runespoor
rarely reaches a great age, as the heads tend to attack each other.
It is common to see a Runespoor with the right head missing, the
other two have banded together to bite it off.
The Runespoor produces eggs through the mouths, the only known
magical beast to do so. These eggs are of immense value in the
production of potions to stimulate mental agility. A black market
in Runespoor eggs and in the serpents themselves has flourished
for several centuries. Newt Scamander

This
is a small fire-dwelling creature that feeds on flame. Brilliant
white in color, it appears blue or scarlet depending upon the heat
of |
the fire in which it makes its apperance.
Salamanders can survive for up to six hours outside of a fire
if regularly fed pepper.
|
They will live only as long as the fire
from which they sprang burns. Salamander blood has powerful curative
and restorative properties. Newt Scamander |
Sea
Serpents are found in the Atlantic, Pacific and Mediterranean seas.
Though alarming in appearance, Sea Serpents are not known to |
have
ever killed any human, despite hysterical Muggle accounts of their
ferocious behaviour. Reaching lengths of up to one hundred feet, |
the Sea Serpent has a horselike head and a long snakelike body that
rises out of the sea in humps. Newt Scamander |
The
Shrake is a fish that is entirely covered in spines and is found
in the Atlantic ocean. The first school of Shrake is believed to
have |
been created as a revenge against Muggle fisherfolk who had
insulted a team of sailing Wizards in the early 1800's. From that
day on, any |
Muggles
fishing in that particular patch of sea have found their nets ripped
and empty owing to the Shrakes swimming deep below. Newt Scamander |
The
Golden Snidget is an extremely rare, protected species of bird.
Completely round, with a very long, thin beak and glistening, jewel-like
red eyes, the Golden Snidget is an extremely fast flier that can
change direction with uncanny |
speed and skill, owing to the rotational
joints of its wings.
The Golden Snidget's feathers and eyes are so highly prized that
it was at one time in danger of being hunted to extinction by
Wizards. The danger was recognized in
|
time, and the species was
inturn protected, the most notable factor being the substitution
of the Golden Snitch of the Snidget in the game of Quidditch.
Snidget sanctuaries exist worldwide. Newt Scamander |
The
Egyptian Sphinx has a human head on a lion's body. For over a thousand
years it has been used by Witches |
and Wizards to guard valuable
items and secret hideaways. Highly intelligent, the Sphinx delights
in puzzles |
and riddles. It is usually only dangerous when the item
or entrance that it is guarding is threatened. Newt Scamander |
STREELER
The streeler is a giant snail that changes
color on an hourly basis and deposits behind it a trail so venomos that
it shrivels and burns all vegetation over which it passes. The Streeler is a |
native to several
African countries, though it has been successfully raised by wizards
in Europe, Asia, and the Americas. It is kept as a pet by those
who enjoy its kaleidoscopic |
color changes, and
its venom is one of the few substances known to kill horklumps.
This information can also be found in Fantastic Beast and Where
to Find them page 40.

The
Tebo is an ash-colored warthog found in Congo and Zaire. It has
the power of |

TROLL
The average troll reaches 12 feet tall and weighs around 1 tonne. They are typically
very strong and extremely stupid, and are well known for their violent nature. Originally from
Scandinavia, they are now found throughout Ireland, Britian and Northern Europe. There
are some recorded cases of some Trolls actually having some intelligence
and being able to speak a few words of English. |
On
such rare occasions, these Trolls are trained as guardians.
The 3 Types of Trolls Mountain Troll
Bald with pale-grey skin, this is the largest and most vicious of all the trolls.
Forest Troll The Forest Troll is distinguished by it's pale-green skin. Some
have hair that is thin and straggly, and
|
is either
green or brown in color.
River Troll
These trolls have short horns, they are generally hairy and have
purplish colored skin. River Trolls are usually always found underneath
bridges.
All trolls eat raw flesh, and are not fussy about
what they consume. Their prey ranges from wild animal to human.

Baby unicorns are gold when they
are born and don't mind the touch of a man or a boy. They do not have
a horn yet. Unicorn hair is used
in wands. When Unicorns are fully grown they are five |
years old,
and their horns are fully grown. When Unicorns are adults, they
prefer the touch of a woman or a girl.Unicorns turn silver

Found worldwide, it is believed that the werewolf
originated in Northern Europe. Humans only turn into a werewolf if they have been bitten by one.
Until recently there was no cure for this unfortunate predicament, and while we are still unable to fully cure a
|
person
that has been bitten, there has been a potion developed that greatly
alleviates the worst symptoms. While the person will still transform
on the full moon, they keep a rational mind. Should a person forget to take their
potion around the full moon, they will turn into a murderous beast. |
Both Wizards and Muggles can be infected by a werewolf bite. Unlike other magical creatures, the werewolf actively hunt humans in preference to any other kind pf prey.

Winged
horses exist worldwide and there are many different breeds, including
the Abraxan (immensly powerful giant palominos), the Aethonan (chestnut,
popular in Britain |
and Ireland), and Granian (grey and particularly
fast), and the rarest of them all, the Thestral (black, possessed
of the power of invisibility and considered unlucky by many Wizards).
|
As with the Hippogriff, the owner of a winged horse is required
to perform a Disillusionment Charm upon it at regular intervals. Newt Scamander |
Also
known as Big Foot and the Abominable Snowman, the Yeti is a native
of Tibet and is believed to be related to the Troll, although no
one |
has yet been close enough to conduct the necessary tests. Up
to fifteen feet tall, and covered in the purest white hair, the
Yeti devours |
anything the strays into its path. The Yeti fears fire
and can be replused by skilled Wizards. Newt Scamander
