ysa on palestine

Beginning in September of 2000, following a provocative "visit" to Palestinian East Jerusalem by right-wing Israeli leader Ariel Sharon, the Palestinian people have once again taken to the streets to protest against oppression. This renewal of the Palestinian "Intifada", or uprising, has once again brought to the attention of the world the continued violent repression and denial of basic democratic rights of Palestinians by Israel.

The Israeli military has responded to the Intifada with a brutal crack down on protesters. Over 150 Palestinians have been shot and killed, and thousands more wounded. Israeli troops are firing live bullets at protesters who have nothing but stones to retaliate with.

In addition, a wave of racist mob attacks on Palestinian homes, villages, shops and even Jewish owned businesses that employ Palestinian Arabs has also taken place, seemingly with the consent of the Israeli military. Pro-Palestinian Israeli activists have appropriately labeled these attacks by right-wing Israelis as "Pogroms," the historic name for the mob attacks on Russian and Eastern European Jews in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

Youth for Socialist Action supports the Palestinian Intifada and the struggle of the Palestinian people for self-determination. We whole-heartedly condemn the Israeli repression. We believe that Israel is a nation built upon racist foundations, and the unjust expelling of an entire people from their homeland.

Youth for Socialist Action is opposed to anti-Semitism in every form, and recognizes the violence and oppression that Jewish people have historically suffered, such as the Holocaust. However, we do not believe that the tragic past of the Jewish people in any way justifies what is being done to the Palestinians.

We call for the abolition of Israel, and the creation of a democratic and secular Palestine where everyone can live in peace and harmony, with equal rights.

Youth for Socialist Action - fighting for a world worth living in!
