PINARC - Working with People Youth@bility recently spoke to Phil Coyne program coordinator of Access for All Abilities (AAA) program at PINARC to discuss what programs are available to young people with a disability PINARC formed two years
ago when four disability service providers merged. These programs
were AAA works along side with other community sport and recreation services such as the YMCA to set up programs and to modify programs that are already being run. The AAA program looks for community activities that are the best suited for a wide of range of people with disabilities. Community activities such as lawn bowls which develop skills, are accessible and affordable are the highest priority. PINARC also runs two-day programs called PILATS and Pennyweight Day Programs which include daily living tasks such as cleaning and cooking and other house hold tasks. Also there is a recreational program called "Great Breaks" during school holidays doing activities like trips, bowling snooker or going out for a meal. Access For
All Abilities program has three aims
· "Increase awareness of benefits of sport and recreation environments inclusive of people with disabilities · Influence local planning to deliver such environments · Increase number and range of such environments inclusive of people with disabilities" Phil believes that people's attitudes towards disabilities are better than what they used to be.
