UNITED CARE

United Care is a Ballarat agency that has a range of programs, which include Alcohol & Drugs, Parental support, Aged Care and a detox centre for youth who have a high dependence of drugs and want to give them up. They can stay at the detoxicating centre for a maximum of two weeks.

Darren McKay quotes that, "The United Care staff has two kinds of clients Voluntary and Mandatory. Mandatory means that somewhere along the line they have broken the law and as part of their sentence they are sent to us." The staff don't give any suggestions or make any discussions for their clients. They just give their clients the information they need and let them make the choices they think are appropriate.

United Care also has S.A.A.P (Supportive Accommodation Assistance Program) workers. Their job is to help find supported accommodation for young people. The staff at United Care believe that people who use drugs are like any one else and should be treated with respect.

Darren McKay added some advice for every one when it comes to drugs. "Make sure the following it is your choice if you are going to take them, it is your choice what you take, it is your choice how much you are going to take. Choose wisely."
