BALLARAT SPECIALIST SCHOOL
WITH PRINCIPAL JOHN BURT

John Burt is the principal of the Ballarat Specialist School, and has been in the field of education for 35 years. John Burt originally started his career as a teacher, then went in to a consultancy position before becoming a principal of a primary school and then eventually entering his current role as the principal of the Ballarat Specialist School.

When asked his opinion of his students attitude towards life, John said he thinks they show far more courage and determination than other students. However John worries that some students pull out of school before they turn 17 or 18 years of age or fall by the way side and he said it is a serious issue that needs addressing.

John added that the biggest challenge he has faced so far in his career has been meeting each of the student's needs because they have such a variety of disabilities in their school. He stated that, "it is our main goal."

Ballarat Specialist School has a range of programs that it offers its students, including some work experience placements.

Outside work John enjoys spending time with his family, running, reading and working in his garden.
