Funds
for the Iraqi People
It
is all about taking up the initiative and deriving the conviction
to follow what you believe in. Many charge at the idea of
peace, while others lay down their lives to support it. Many
consider it an illusion, while others revere to it as means
of existence. Many are those who believe in it yet are afraid
to reach out, while others are those who extend their hands
and act, so to attain, what they consider to be right. As
the Youth Initiative for Peace movement came into existence,
so did the unification of a team of students who managed to
influence and convince all, that peace is the only solution…
These very people gathered the courage to
stand up against the United States of America in its stance
to bomb Iraq. I was a member of this organisation and took
it up along with Zaair Hussain to help the worn torn Iraq’s,
in anyway possible and one that shall be most beneficial
for them. The idea of peace vigils was carried out in Karachi;
Lahore witnessed Peace rallies and walks, thus the Yippes
planned to raise funds for the Iraqi’s. Since this
fund raising drive was confined to the local Schools and
each of us representing our school, it was a hectic task,
one that needed much determination and well involved literally
squeezing every penny out of the donors. However, within
a time span of just 12-13 days Aitchison College managed
to collect Rs.55,000 for the Iraqis.
Only one school, and an effort of a team
has made a difference to not one but many lives. Had peace
been the stance of the world man could have coexisted with
himself and could have learnt ot be tolerant. Lets make
a better place to live in, a better place safe from ourselves.Join
Youth Initiative For Peace.
