The current method is self explanatory, you get the same number of electoral
votes as your state has congressman and senators. The number of congressional electors being based on population while the number of senatorial electors is always 2. The winner takes all the
electoral votes despite how slim a lead they may have.
The proportional
method distributes congressional electors according to the popular vote, then awards the remaining senatorial electors as a bonus for having won. (This is similiar to the method used by Maine and
Nebraska). I modified it even further by allowing partial electoral votes to
thus reflect the popular vote in totality.
The last method takes away the senatorial bonus, removing the voice of the state completely.

It's very obvious that the purpose of the electoral college is to allow the states to have some influence in the outcome of close elections, favoring the candidate who wins the most states.
Now before you go knocking the electoral college and say states shouldn't have any voice in an election, don't forget the senate. The house is full representation of the people based on population while the senate is full representation of the states.
In other words, in Congress, California can trump Wyoming, but in the Senate, California and Wyoming have equal say.
If we abandon the electoral college, then we must abandon the Senate as well, because it's based on the same principle.
