This is the Ype recumbent bicycles' website. We handmade recumbent bicycles in three different designs.

1. Front Wheel Drive - Twist Chain: This is our most known design. Bicycles built with 20" or 26" wheels. The basic usage is high performance comuting for short, middle or long distances. In the twist chain system, the chain is guided from the crankset to the front drive wheel passing by two orientation pulleys. When the cyclist turns the handlebars, the descending portion of the chain becomes slightly twisted. This motion don't causes imprecision cog shifting nor premature chain failures. 2. Front Wheel Drive with Hinged Frame: This is the most radical design. Based on the concept of the german designer Jürgen Mages (http://www.python.de.tt/). This model is steered by body inclination. The static handlebar is just used to rest the hands and to fix the brake levers and shifters. See some pictures below:

3. Rear Wheel Drive Foldable: The easy transporting was keep on mind in this design. This is a semi-recumbent folding frame bicycle. It has 16" wheels and indirect transmission. The mid-drive makes easy the folding task. See some pictures below:

4. Building & Finishing: Ype recumbents are custom handmade bicycles. You don't find two bicycles absolutely identical. The design is customized in measures and components after an interview with the future owner. The frames are steel made MIG welded. The frames are zinc plated (galvanization) and powder coated (epoxi oven cured). All Ype parts are made with rust free materials ou rust free treated materials.
