Publication date: 1987 Number of pages: 32 Reviewed by Kendy July 1996 Would you like to know what a jungle looks like? Would you like to read a story with adventure, sorrow, and joyfulness all in one? Girl Against The Jungle, by Monica Vincent, is a fictional story about a girl named Suzanne who survives a plane crash in the Amazon jungle. Fortunately, she learned the rules of the jungle from her parents, but how long can she stay alive when she is alone against the jungle? Suzanne is waiting with her mother for their plane at the Lima Airport in Peru. She plans to meet her father in Pucalpa, in the jungle, for a happy Christmas. However, her plane from Lima to Pucalpa crashes in the jungle. It's AWFUL! When Suzanne's father hears this news on his radio, his world and his hopes disappear. No more joy, no more hearty laughter! Does his wife and daughter have a slim chance of survival? My favorite part of this book was the whole process of Suzanne's search to live on. The process is full of exciting and alarming dangers. Can you imagine staying alone in a wild place with lots of frogs, snakes, spiders, mosquitoes, piranhas, alligators, jaguars, king vultures, monkeys, and many other creatures? Also, can you imagine having many maggots on your arms? It's disgusting, isn't it? Yet Suzanne is so brave and staunch that she does many things other people can't. How can she overcome these difficulties? Do you want to know the result after she struggles against the jungle alone for ten days? Well, you should read this book and you will be amazed. The other wonderful part of this book is that there are many photos linking up the whole story. You can read this book and travel in the photos at the same time. The sorrow and happiness of this book will carry your emotions up and down, the victims of the airplane crash will make you cry, and the end of this story will make you feel good inside. This book, Girl Against The Jungle, is a wonderful book to read. Do you feel bored or depressed with your life? Then you should read this book because the content will cheer you up. |
