"Man is not made for defeat; Man can be destroyed but not defeated." If you love to read books which make you think deeply, you might like this book. It has a lot of interesting deep statements. I can say this is the best philosophical story that I have ever read. This book was awarded The Nobel Prize for Literature in 1954. And the author, who is a famous American author, has many popular books. The author's life is amazing, strange, and exciting like the people in his novels. If you want to know "Hemingway" more and more you should read this book.

Summary

This is a story about an old fisherman who is clever, challenging and never upset. He's poor and alone but doesn't need any help from anybody. He lives by fishing with a small skiff on the Lamar Sea in Havana, Spain. He usually catches small fish because of his primitive fishing. Moreover his boat is too old and small. Fortunately, one day he is able to catch the biggest dolphin that has ever been caught. So many fisherman feel surprised and respect him. As a result, he catches that fish by fish-hook.

The people and the incidents in this novel are presented in a way that causes man to consider the best way to live. It you are learning to know yourself, this book can help you.
