читателей было предоставлено два различных варианта обложки.
На обеих обложках изображена чешская модель Каролина Куркова (Karolina Kurkova): на одной из них она задорно улыбается, на другой – смотрит в камеру серьезно и недоверчиво. Проголосовать за понравившуюся обложку можно на сайте журнала – www.vogue.co.uk.
Многие профессионалы считают, что Каролину ждет большое будущее в модельном бизнесе. Скаут заметил девушку в ее родной Праге в 1999 году в возрасте всего 15 лет, и она сразу же стала фавориткой многих известных дизайнеров. В этом сезоне Каролина участвует в рекламных кампаниях zVersace Jeans, Celine и Louis Vuitton.

The latest European trend for lingerie is colour: it's no longer limited to whites and off-whites. We began seeing this last year at La Perla and some of its competitors, with pink and black returning for spring 2001. La Perla, in particular, innovated with its brassière-bretelle, previewed in Lucire last October at the Milano shows. It also showcased the chain-kini, a bikini made up of 18-carat gold chains.
With the official launch of the La Perla spring–summer 2001 underwear line, the design directions of the company become clearer, and as this series of photographs show, its designers have stayed faithful to the credo of Ada Masotti and the first La Perla store in 1954.
Lightness is another theme for the season, according to La Perla. The use of transparent Leavers lace and tulle contribute to this. Exquisite embroidery, as one would expect from a top-of-the-line lingerie brand, feature, from careful use of lace to Florentine fret-work appliquйs.
The items seem more classy now that they appear in La Perla stores, than when they first were shown under harsh catwalk lights. They are softer than what we first expected, with La Perla itself claiming that some of the silk designs having ‘rigour and snobbery’. Still provocative, they have a very different impact, enhancing the figure rather than detracting from it through overdesign. They contrast the sharper shades of La Perla's beachwear collection this season, which also adopted a colourful theme.
Items in Leavers lace include a thong, G-string and brief, plus bustier, suspender belt and short slip. The colours are delicate and sophisticated aqua green and siren pink which, together with white and black, complete the range.
What appears to be missing this season is the clash in style that had been vogue for the latter part of the 1990s and 2000. This clash was the contrast between, for instance, straight lines and curves. As the world enters a more recessionary mood in the 2000s, conservatism — and fortunately its more optimistic sister classicism — have returned to the design vocabulary.
This means coordinated pieces and more natural forms. From a design perspective, the latter is reassuring and familiar. Hence, La Perla’s designs go with the contour of the figure, there are soft curves in the brassiиre designs, and the only exception to this is the brassière-bretelle.
There is one point of contrast, as shown on the previous picture: the combination of classical design with modern technology. No woman is going to take a retrograde step in comfort even if designs are becoming more restrained. Hence, La Perla has adopted a special air padding for one design though to the wearer — and observer — it is a classically shaped and styled bra.

The themes are also less overtly sexual (though no less sexy) than expected, particularly after La Perla’s fall–winter 2001–2 preview, which played on bondage themes. It will be interesting to observe how that will translate into final design offerings in two seasons’ time.
La Perla has also dйbuted offerings in prints, in keeping with the classical feminine theme. As shown here, silk georgette fabric features a pictorial flower motif. The G-string features a bow. There are also items in Lycra, in the interest of maximizing comfort.
For the 1970s-inspired theme, the georgette silk designs use straps and ruches to enhance the “light” mood of spring–summer 2001. Pink and turquoise shades are offered.
Similarly feminine and sexy is a lace petticoat in transparent Leavers lace, that is as seductive as customers have come to expect from La Perla. This and other Leavers lace items show changes in colour nuances thanks to the way the fabric and the floral designs work, a theme that will be continued next season in a more provocative way. The rose motif that appears in the design shown at right add to the petticoat's femininity.
The departure towards the brassière-bretelle, therefore, comes as a surprise. It has helped give La Perla more of a profile and cemented its reputation as a style leader. The chain-kini is in the brassière-bretelle style. However, innovations should not, as a rule, be kept back because of style concerns.
When it was first shown last October, the company believed the design to be unprecedented. Modelled after men’s braces and combined with the best of lingerie manufacture, the brassière-bretelle is a bold step whose sales record will be seen in following months.

Reaction proved favourable, and it should appeal to the more adventurous consumer willing to be more revealing. Even in a recession, there are style leaders and early adopters. But it is more — at least because of its novelty and inspiration — masculine in form than the traditional lingerie items. It covers less than the traditional bra, concealing the centre of the bosom.

La Perla can legitimately say it has created a new niche in lingerie and swimwear design (the brassière-bretelle features in the latter range also). A nightwear line makes its dйbut at the same time.
