Nothing better than a good dose of "OLD BLUES".This is what Gene Harris has to propose with his quartet: music which is simple, honest and goes straight to the listener.The bluesy feeling pervades every track; even the ballads reveals how deeply this pianist is rooted in the tradition, playing with swing and at his most lyrical.The musicians provide great support, expecially guitarist Ron Escheté,with his tasteful, swinging solos. It seems like they really were having a ball playing.Try to listen to "The Sidewinder" or "This Little Light Of Mine" (irresistable) without moving... A cd recommended to everyone,even to non-jazz fans.

Un rimedio contro certo jazz troppo cerebrale e intellettualizzato dei giorni nostri?Niente di meglio che una buona dose di "vecchio blues". È quello che ci propone Gene Harris con il suo quartetto: una musica semplice e onesta che arriva diretta all'ascoltatore.Il blues permea ogni brano;anche le ballate rivelano quanto questo pianista abbia messo radici nella tradizione, suonando con swing e grande senso lirico.I musicisti provvedono un ottimo sostegno, specialmente il chitarrista Ron Escheté, con i suoi assoli swinganti e davvero gustosi.Sembra proprio si siano divertiti un sacco a suonare in questo disco.Provate ad ascoltare "The Sidewinder" o "This Little Light Of Mine" (irresistibile) senza muoversi...Un cd raccomandato a tutti anche a chi non é proprio un fan di jazz.
