Chet Baker in Milan
A very good swinging album, the first of the Chet Baker's european period. In quite all tracks the line-up is a sextet with three wind: trumpet, alto & tenor sax. One of the best played Chet Baker's youth albums, with a wind section arranged by the italian Giulio Libano in a beautiful way. All themes are very famous and played very clearly in the typical West Coast cool jazz way. Remarkable for the beautiful armonizations (one of the best arranged album in history) of the themes and for the very clean and tasteful solos are the Miles Davis' hit Tune Up and Line for Lyons, a Gerry Mulligan's tune Baker recorded with the famous Mulligan's pianoless quartet (another great arranger). Funny (??) how the personnel of this album is always mispelled...
Un album con molto swing, il primo del periodo europeo di Chet Baker. La formazione è quasi in tutte le tracce un sestetto con tre fiati: tromba, sax contralto e tenore. Uno degli album suonati meglio fra quelli del giovane Chet Baker, con la sezione fiati arrangiata magistralmentedall'italiano Giulio Libano. Tutti i temi sono famosissimi ed enunciati molto chiaramente nel classico stile del West Coast cool jazz. Notevoli per le armonizzazioni da Oscar(uno degli album meglio arrangiati della storia) e per i soli puliti e piacevoli sono la hit di Miles Davis Tune Up e Line For Lyons, un brano di Mulligan (anche lui un arrangiatore eccezionale) che Baker aveva già registrato con il mitico pianoless quartet. Bello (??) come i nomi dei mucisti di questo disco vengano puntualmente scritti sbagliati...
