John Coltrane & Johnny Hartman
Ladies and Gentlemen, a velvet album for all soft-light-atmosphere lovers out here. The tenor master John Coltrane gave a great lession of balladry on this six tunes to all the jazz-players. His rhythm trio works perfectly (as always....) baking his high register excursions lighting up a new 'Trane, way sweeter than the aggressive and furious one we can hear on the other historycal sets. This uncommon Coltrane is teamed with a singer...a warm voice, warmer than you can imagine: Johnny Hartman. One of the best jazz albums, only a little bit too short (30 mins).
Signore e signori, un album di velluto per tutti gli amanti delle luci soffuse. Il maestro del sax tenore John Coltrane dà una grande lezione di ballad a tutti i jazzisti su questi sei brani. Il suo trio di ritmiche funziona perfettamente (come al solito...) nell'accompagnare le sue escursioni nel registro alto dello strumento e ci mostra un nuovo 'Trane, molto più dolce dell'aggressivo e furioso solista che siamo abituati ad ascoltare nelle altre registrazioni storiche. Questo inusuale Coltrane è abbinato ad un cantante...una voce calda, più calda di quanto si possa immaginare: Johnny Hartman. Uno dei migliori dischi jazz, solo un po' troppo breve.
