Desafinado
In September 1962, during the Bossa Nova boom, after the hits of Stan Getz and Joao Gilberto, also the great tenorman Coleman Hawkins recorded a whole album dedicated to this new style. But what's exactly Bossa Nova? Imagine a South American rhythm, full of syncopes and moving accents...blend it with the typical changes of West Coast Jazz...and the Bossa Nova is born. This septet plays a wonderful Bossa, rhythmically a little bit weaker than the Getz-Byrd band, but with a beautiful sax tone, very round and mellow, that give great peace and smoothness to the themes. Good guitar solos and accompainment provided by Barry Galbraith and Howard Collins: I bet nobody would hear that this was the first time ever the two guitarists played Bossa Nova!!
Nel settembre del 1962, nel pieno del boom della Bossa Nova, dopo le Hits di Stan Getz e Joao Gilberto, anche il grande tenore Coleman Hawkins registrò un album intero dedicato a quel nuovo stile. Ma cos'è esattamente la Bossa Nova? Immaginatevi un ritmo Sud Americano, ricco di sincopi e di movimento...stemperatelo con le armonie del Jazz della West Coast...e così nasce la Bossa Nova. Questo settetto suona una superba Bossa, ritmicamente un pelo più debole di quella della band di Getz e Byrd, però arricchita dallo straodinario suono del sax di Coleman Hawkins che dona pace e tranquillità a tutti i brani. Begli assoli di chitarra e ottimi accompagnamenti dei due chitarristi Barry Galbraith e Howard Collins: scommetto che nessuno riescirà a notare neanche lontanamente che questa sessione era la primissima volta in cui quei due avevano a che fare con la Bossa Nova.
