While she doesn't bear any mystical armor gear or weapons, Nasutei Yagyuu is a strong human character. At just seventeen years old, she's proven to survive through tough situations and keep her sanity in check, all the while trying to help her friends achieve victory. Unfortunately, her presence is lukewarm at best among many of the North American fans (consisting of mostly females). She is often bashed for her clothing style and overall appearance - which is a shallow and petty way of retaliating against a fictional character. She is also dismissed because fans fail to see her purpose in the series, which is to help the heroes win the day. Instead, they continue to view her as bait for the youja, when she provides so much more for her friends.
Nasutei appears in the first episode of the anime series. There, she seeks out Rekka no Ryo on her own. Manga-wise, she appears almost immediately in search of Ryo; in this version, however, she is accompanied by Yamano Jun AND Kongo no Shuu (it's never explained how the three of them got together - just that they are in search of the remaining Samurai Troopers).
In all official mediums, Nasutei is shown to have a lot of patience and wisdom; she is caring, stubborn, headstrong, and has demonstrated leadership qualities when needed. In episode 9 of the TV series, when the Troopers (minus Touma) can't agree on who should go into the city and who should stay behind, Nasutei takes over and makes the decision herself. She sticks to her guns even when Shuu objects (and never the less leaves camp with Ryo). While she's been used as bait a few times by the enemies, she isn't afraid to sacrifice herself for the sake of her friends (or at the time, people she barely knew). In episode 3, when she and Jun are being held captive by Shuten, she tells Ryo to forget about her and save Jun. In episode 7 she willingly puts herself in the line of danger (facing Yami Masho Anubis alone) so Seiji can achieve his ability to perform the Rai Kou Zan.
Nasutei appeared in almost every episode of YST. The exception is the 3rd OVA Message (not counting the flashbacks) and she only appears in the last episode where she was prepared to reveal the existence of the Samurai Troopers before the government officials in attendance. It is unknown whether or not she succeeded in doing so. All in all, she continues to support her friends and draws strength from them.
QUICK FACTS: * Nasutei's birthday is May 28th and her astrological sign is Gemini; according to the YST book Memorials, her birthday is listed as May 15th, thus making her a Taurus. However, all other canon sources released with her biographical information lists her birthday as May 28th. The May 15th birthday may have been a mistake on Sunrise's part. * She has type AB blood. * Her element is wind. * In the North American version of YST, Ronin Warriors, she is called "Mia Koji". * In the beginning of the series she is 17 years old. In Message she is 20 years old. * Nasutei stands 5'6" and remains this height throughout the series. This is actually considered "tall" among Japanese women. And on that note, Nasutei is bi-racial (half French, half Japanese). * Nasutei's first name is written in katakana. This is because she is a foreigner. Other characters like Luna, Mukara, and Naria all have their names written in katakana). * She refers to herself using "watashi." * Various "accepted" spellings of her first names are: Nasuti; Nasty; Nasti; Nasutei; Naste. As long as you write the katakana correctly then any of these names are fine. Personally I use "Nasuti" or "Nasutei". Bandai, the company behind the commercially available english version of YST, uses "Naste" with a little dash over the "e". * Various "accepted" spellings of her family name are: Yagyu; Yagyuu. * Nasutei's voice actress for the TV series and OVAs is Kusakabe Kaori (surname first, first name last). Mia's voice actress for the TV series is Lalainia Lindbjerg (Bulma Briefs from the various Dragon Ball series). Meanwhile, her OVA voice actress is Maggie Blue O’Hara (Kitty Pryde AKA Shadowcat from the X-Men Evolution cartoon series).
