Chapter Seven How to Look at the Possessed Souls
The people, born as humans, are willing to be incarnated by fox and willow spirits instead of Buddha, are called the "possessed" souls. They include those shamans. This occupation is very awful. After they die, it takes a very long time for them to come back to human form. It takes them many times the time that it takes normal people with average karma. Therefore, it is stated in religion that these people will never become human again. No, it is not true that they will never become human again. But it takes a long time. When they come back to human form, they will still suffer a lot due to the previous karma that they have left in this world. This kind of person always tells people to do this and that, but actually he does not have the right to reveal those things. Only the Creator has the right to do that. He acts falsely in the position of the Creator. Don’t you understand that? This kind of sacrilege is very serious! Ignorant people wouldn’t say those things. He who has a little foresight reveals all the secrets. Do you understand? Therefore when he comes back to human form, his past causes and conditions will show up. Then he will be harmed by those. Most of these kinds of people are likely to be forced to do their old job. But most of them would prefer to die than to do their old job. Therefore they have to suffer unlimitedly. That is really…look, they are so miserable!
So, under normal circumstances, we don’t get involved in this because it is part of cause and retribution. However, in special events or special causes and conditions, we can deal with them by means of the methods that don’t violate the Law of Cause and Retribution. Via love! Of course it is inevitable during the process that we may use violence. If they don’t understand and act ruthlessly or don’t cooperate, we may sanction them. Do you know? But we don’t use black magic power. Why don’t we use black magic power? Do you know? If you use black magic power, you will strike them very hard and harm them seriously. Then, it will put them in the situation that it takes a very long time to come back to human form. So we can’t use that. If it is not a special case, normally we don’t get involved in this kind of thing. Remember not to obstruct the Way. Sometimes it is themselves who have problems. We can’t ignore it. We need to get involved. Their karma is not only created in this life. Do you know? They need to repay all of their past debts. Then it is squared. Otherwise it is not over. That is very horrible. In addition, their heart is in a leaking state in this life. Alas, sometimes they disguise their true face. That is true. They are in disguise. Then, they may show up their true face suddenly. Therefore, Dharma-guardians could no longer protect them. The judge who imposes sanctions says: "Look, you try to obstruct me whenever I try to sanction him. You say he is cultivating Buddhahood. Is he truly cultivating Buddhahood?" The Dharma-guardians see that and agree with the judge. Then they will let the judge take over the authority to sanction him. That’s how things go. Look at Li-yen Cheng. She did not want to see Tao Qiu’s energy channels opened. She did not want to see Wu-xu go to the mountain. This kind of behavior was not Li-yen Cheng’s problem. But as a matter of fact, because she had this kind of quality, she was used by this kind of energy. Do you understand?
If you did not have this kind of quality, they (low-destine spirits) couldn’t borrow your energy. Therefore I insist again and again on the elimination of evilness within us. Evilness can’t dominate righteousness. If you have evilness within you, they can quickly climb up the top of the pole. That is like flames fanned by the wind! It works very well! This is a long lesson. We can’t adopt other methods. Therefore we need to let her eliminate her karma quickly, and let those formless entities who have causes and conditions with her all obtain benefits. You have to solve this problem by this method. You can’t block them or suppress them by helping the cripple smack the blind. That won’t work. Don’t take that approach.
Therefore, during the process, look at what happened to Brother Fu yesterday. Look at that Old Sheng Wu. Did you see that? She started to cough as soon as you started to lecture. She would be fine when you were not lecturing. She had something wrong whenever you started to lecture. She had been like that for more than a year. Don’t you know? Now her problem is gone. Therefore, there was a period of time in which I scolded those who coughed during my lectures. You don’t understand it. "Alas, our spiritual master is very strict. Who wants to cough? He doesn’t even allow people to cough." You don’t understand the truth. I wasn’t scolding you, son! There was one within you that should be scolded. I was scolding "it". It wanted to take a space and take advantage of me. Do you know? It was due to the insufficiency of our merits. You were not supposed to hear such high-level Dharma. Therefore your karma-hindrance showed up! That’s what things were. Did you see that Brother Fu always acted stupidly as soon as the lecture proceeded to a crucial moment? Didn’t you see that?
Think over our Bhagavad-gita lesson. Was it easy to hold such a big lesson one lecture by another in this winter? In today’s world, how much merits are necessary to have this kind of cause and condition? Do you know how much effort you have put into? If Sister Huang had listened to me, or she had realized that, to sternly stop and severely punish Li-yen Cheng when Cheng was acting foolishly again, this problem wouldn’t have happened. You should have severely punished her when she was wild. Never be lenient or softhearted on this. If someone who has listened to the Bhagavad-gita lesson doesn’t understand this point, the lesson is useless.
Therefore, if you don’t do things well, you will leave troubles that will come up later. You will suffer another time. Aye, through this, we have understood that we are unable to detect that kind of cause and condition and don’t know how to deal with that concrete cause and condition. We always can’t handle things well. We do what we shouldn’t do and don’t do what we should do. For example, the handling of Tin-yu was absolutely correct. We should adopt the appropriate methods in our dealings.
Therefore, a high-level spiritual master is not just the savior for the people of this world. While he is saving the people of this world, there are a lot of causes and conditions involving the living entities at other levels. When you hold on this rope over here, the opening of the net over there opens up. Do you know? When the head rope of a fishing net is raised, the net gets opened up. One cause and condition is related to many causes and conditions. That’s how things go. You should not just look at this side. You can’t afford to provoke those formless entities with enormous karma over the other side. That’s how things go. If you are not strong enough, you will be smacked to the ground. You can’t stand it!
