| When he was a child, he was part of the Sekihoutai. This peasent, or warrior type group, was used by the Meiji Ishin government, but then the Ishinshishi ripped them off, and didn't hold up their part of the deal to the Sekihoutai. They killed them all, including the leader, with only Sano and his friend Katsyu surviving. This is why Sano hates the Meiji Ishin govenment so much...Origially hired to attemp to kill Kenshin, he of course loses the battle, and becomes friends with him. He doesn't use swords or weapons to fight, for the most part, he uses his fists. He is very strong, but nothing compared to Kenshin, or anybody at Kenshin's level. However, he does come in handy and of use at various times throughout the series. He becomes one of Kenshin's little group, and although he usually hides it, he does care for the others a lot. |
