(August 1998 - December 1999)
Two years of work hard, play hard in Tokyo..foggy memories of the weekend and the faintest memory of the week... I was partied out. All of us 30 weekend scavengers were leaving one by one so I thought to myself..."who wants to be the last one to turn off the lights to a party?" So I left too! I took the first contract offered to me-and I arrive in Breda, The Netherlands..August 10, 1998.
After two weeks of living here, I started to mark my calender with X's and couting down the day I will head out of this country. Hated it! The people, the weather, the food, everything about it!
But if I had to say something nice about the place...In my 18 months living there I highly suggest:
- Anne Frankhuis is very educational and well-presented.
- Van Gogh Museum has been well renovated!
- The architecture of Rijks Museum is very impressive! Not to mention Rembrant's "Night watch", collection of dollhouses, antique furniture and sculptures in the groundfloor.
- The Red-light district just for a good laugh. Defintely a foto in front of the Banana Bar fountain!
- Keukenhof if you like Tullips and have good timing. Otherwise postcards are better than multiple acres of freshly planted tullip bulbs..
- My favorite city is Utrecht for a relaxing lunch along the canals.
- Japanese food at "Yamazato" in the Okura Hotel!
- Go to Belgium (Antwerpen is 30min, and Bruxelles is 1hr.)for Sunday Champagne Brunch at the Meridian Hotel, Godiva Chocolate-covered Strawberries , and better shopping.
