Maeve's Outfit

26 November 2005:

I started playing in a group called Belegarth. Okay, I went one time, but I am hoping to make it to more practices and maybe some events (one day). For this game, you need costuming, a fight name, and a general persona. While talking to some of the other people in the group, others who were thinking about joining the group, and looking online, I came to a decision as to who and what I want to play...

Her name is Maeve. She's a mercenary. She's strong and beautiful and scary all at once. She is a mix between several characters I've played in Cambrion. Boadicea, Yulandria, and Kitsune. Boa in her strength and 'roll in the mud' nature. Yulandria in dress (mostly) and fiery temper. Kitsune in her quiet, other-worldly 'feel' and appearance. Her fighting style would be a mix of the three (and maybe a touch of Meesha thrown in for good measure... no problem stabbing someone in the back). Her main weapons of choice would be axes and buckler, I'm hoping. So I wanted an outfit and look that would fit this character well. Here's the break down:

1. Black baggy pants.
2. Red underdress.
3. Red overdress.
4. Braided rope belt.
5. Long trailing hairpiece.

I have most of the pieces. I have old black baggy pants that might work for the time being, though I fully expect to make new ones if they don't. The red underdress (which can be seen here), the red overdress, and braided rope belt are all already made.

What I will be doing is actually altering these items, sprucing them up with more detailing, and making the trailing hairpiece. The makeup (a mix of darksun and geisha) will also need some practice.

I don't expect this project will move quickly, since I have a lot of packing to do in preparation of my move back north. But once there, I'm expecting a lot of lonely nights filled with longing of the people I left behind, marking the calendar until I return. With that in mind, I'll probably start working more on my costuming projects and my other arts just to pass the time.
