Yuoo's Diary - April 2004
Sunday, April 04, 2004 - Today is Palm Sunday, so Yuoo had an interesting time at Mortar Abbey today. First of all, yesterday afternoon, Yuoo was unusually sleepy, and he ended up falling asleep at 5:00 PM. He woke up this morning at 8:00 AM, and so he decided to head to the Abbey early, which was a good thing because the time change was today. Oh, guess what? Yuoo found his recorder again! (Yippie!) In case you don't know, a recorder is a musical instrument, similar to a flute. Yuoo is fairly proficient in it. Anyway, a creature at Mortar asked Yuoo to vaccum the pine needles from the floor of the main hall (part of the decorations for Palm Sunday). In the middle of the vaccuming, Yuoo smelled something strange, and he noticed that smoke was coming from the vaccum! Burning plastic isn't a pleasant smell. In the very center is Aslan the Lion. If you've looked at the artwork page of this website, you'll notice that Yuoo and I can't draw very well, but we are very good a creating mazes, so that's what he did. In honor of Easter, beasts at Mortar have been painting murals during the service, and today Yuoo continued the one he started last week. This mural is of a maze in the shape of a cross. Today, Yuoo tasted wine for the first time. Usually they have grape juice at Mortar Abbey, but Abbot Rains decided to do things differently. The wine was more bitter than Yuoo imagined it would be.
Monday, April 05, 2004 - Yuoo had a lousy day today. Since Easter is approaching, Abbot Rains asked the creatures of Mortar Abbey to participate in an around-the-clock prayer vigil. Being a morning-fox, Yuoo signed up for the 5:00AM slot this morning. Later today, Yuoo's stomach felt very lousy. It hurt very bad. Later on, he coughed up a little bit of blood. He feels better now, but he's decided not to get up early tomorrow.
Saturday, April 10, 2004 - Yuoo and I have been pretty busy these past few days. Yesterday, Yuoo worked on three Alchemy assignments, one of which he didn't finish. This morning, Yuoo attended the annual programming contest at school. He was on a team with an otter from a place called Swaziland. Together, they had three hours to complete six programming assignments. They had time to work on four of the projects. Of these four, they completed and submitted two for judging. Both of these programs failed inspections. It was tiring, but Yuoo enjoyed it. This morning, the heavy wooden keyboard tray of Yuoo's computer broke off and fell, landing squarely on his left footpaw. Ouch!
Thursday, April 29, 2004 - Yuoo's Alchemy class is coming to an end, so over the past few weeks, he has been trying (in many cases, unsucessfully) to finish his assignments. Yuoo's final exam is tomorrow. At the very least, Yuoo will get a C in his class, but he hopes he can do better. Yesterday, one of Yuoo's friends from Mortar Abbey had lunch with him. She took him to a place on campus where the Hare Krishnas serve lunch. One of the monks, a hare, served Yuoo a plate of very strange and exotic food. Yuoo is a vegetarian, but this food (although tasty) makes the food he usually eats look like pork chops in comparison. I don't remember if I told you this, but Yuoo's previous art commission failed because the artist was too busy with classes. Yuoo has commissioned another creature, a female golden retriever, to draw a portrait of himself. [Stephanie, if you're reading this, please don't be upset about the golden retriever thing. Everyone I write about in my diary becomes some sort of animal, and a golden retriever seemed to fit best because I know you like dogs and this dog seemed to fit your personality (and I mean that in a good way).]
Friday, April 30, 2004 - Today, Yuoo took is final exam in Alchemy class, and he tells me he did decently on it. The main part of the exam consisted of samples of elements that Yuoo had to transmute into other elements. Turning Bromine into Chlorine was fairly easy. Turning Lead into Carbon was a bit tricky, so Yuoo isn't sure he got it quite right. Turning Lead into Gold was out of the question because Yuoo didn't study that formula last night. Yuoo will probably get a C in this class, a B if he's lucky. Yuoo's roommate, Kyung-tae the otter, tells him that his friend is visiting soon.
