Kai shows up in the Third Stage. Like Emperor, he is from the Tochigi Prefecture and from Iroha Mountain. He is also the son of Ken Kogashiwa, who was Bunta's rival in the younger days of racing. Kai is an excellent driver and is one of the best drivers in Initial D. When he was 16, he used to ride a motor bike until he was old enough to get a driver's license. He currently drives his father's MR2 (you see a lot of sons borrowing from their dad =P). Anyways, he heard about the famous 86 and went to the Gunma Prefecture to find the driver. He stops at the gas station and asks Iketani if he is the driver of the 86. Iketani says that he isn't and Kai drives back home. On his way, he passes by Bunta, who was driving the 86 on Akina Mt., and Kai realizes that he just passed by the infamous 86. Bunta felt something strong in Kai's driving, which made him nervous. The next day, Kai comes back and challenges Takumi to a race. Bunta is scared because he doesn't want his son to lose to the son of his rival. Before Takumi goes to Iroha, Bunta gives him some advice about the mountain (tips and tricks). Ken also gives his son some advice, mainly because he still holds a grudge against Bunta and sees this opportunity to get his revenge ("My son is better than yours, so that makes me the better driver...." etc...). Well, Kai is a nice fellow and does admit defeat when defeated. He also humiliates Seiji before the race, which makes me happy =). I don't know why people see him as a "Daddy's Boy." |
