Power: Shockwaves Kyra's mutation allows her to create shockwaves that can be used in a variety of ways. Kyra takes the air around her and superconcentrates it, and then releases it, creating a powerful shockwave of the outcoming air. Initially, she was only able to create the shockwaves while using her hands as a focus, but she's slowly learning to focus it through other aspects of her body, or even form it at points away from her body. She can now form it in her palms, the outside of her fists, or on her fingertips. Her power also flares up a great deal of "instinctive" times, such as forming on her fists to protect her skin when punching something that would hurt her, or under her feet in order to cushion a fall. Her power can also be used as a distance attack, firing the condenced air at an opponent or target, and releasing the shockwave on contact. However, this requires much more concentration than her normal usage, and leaves her more open and exposed while using it. Her shockwaves vary depending on how much air she concentrates, from creating a small breeze of air to a force powerful enough to demolish a standard size building. She has slowly, very slowly, beginning to develop the ability to use her shockwaves without focusing them with her hands, although this sems to happen more when she is angry or in a fit of rage than a councious move. She is getting more effecient and drawing air in and releasing it, and has made great strides in her control as well as he usage of her powers thanks to her X-Men training. A light forms where the condensed air is formed, created by the heat that is required to keep the air condensed. Using her power drains her energy, and when using it excessively or causing an extremely powerful blast can substantially tire her or knock her out. |

History Early Life and Manifestation Kyra was born to a Japanese mother and American father, and lived a fairly normal life until the age of ten. One night, a stupid, nonsensical fight occured between her and her parents, that kind of fight that parents and children that age have. The exact details of the fight are long lost to her, but the fight had one major consequence; her mutant power manifested. Without any means to know what was going on, or how to control it, her power flared up at it's peak strength in that first manifestation, creating a shockwave suffecient to buckle the support beams of her house and cause it to come crashing down, killing her parents, who were in the kitchen below. It was by the pure luck that her room was on the second floor that she surivived. When she awoke, she had no memory of what had happened, simply told (and believed by everyone) that her parents had died when the house collapsed because of a bad board. Foster Homes and Self-Discovery For the next six years, Kyra was shipped back and forth between foster homes. She spent a lot of time at the Foster Center, where she befriended a very similarly aged and orphaned Alex Cage. Her and Alex became fast friends, although the time they spent together was fairly brief- it was only days or weeks when they both happened to be there before one or the other was sent to a new family. It was during this time that Kyra discovered that she was gay- and the reason that one of her families sent her away. It was a simple discovery that she made one day, when she realized that she thought women were much more beautiful than men, and she found herself thinking in terms of attraction rather than just friendship. It got her in more than a few bits of trouble around the Center or at her homes. Her powers were also constantly a problem, because they would flare up at the worse times, because no matter how much she tried on her own, she was unable to gain any sort of control over them. Then, one day, a letter came at the Center for her. Arrival At Xavier's It was less than a week before she arrived at none other than the Xavier's Institute for Gifted Youngsters, a place for people like her- mutants -to be able to learn to control their powers and use them for the betterment of mankind. Kyra quickly fit in, making friends with most of the people there, although her powers continuously skippd out of her control. One day, a brief newscast came up about a family who's home collapsed, killing the parents of the child that was not home at the time. Different than her own case- but enough to bring the memory of her own family back to her, and cause a violent power manifestation as the repressed memories coming to life. With the help of Brigit and Eve, she was able to come to terms with her past, and what happened to her parents, although it still eats at her each day, and is quite possibly her biggest vice- her inability to forgive herself. |
![]() | Nightfall and the Brood The somewhat calm peace that settled on Xavier's wasn't going to last too long though. During a trip to the mall with Taylor, the pair was attacked by a new enemy, calling himself Nightfall. He attacked them many times, hitting hard not only physically, but mentall and emotioanlly with all of the students, including Xander and Eve. Paranoia and worry started to settle in around the school, and in the worry of the moment, Kyra and Taylor only came closer together, eventually finding a cool, empty night to consumate their relationship. The next day, though, Nightfall would strike again, after being provoked by the revelation that Nightfall was, in reality, Toni Chivini's dark side, much in the way that Cassandra Nova is Xavier's dark side. The fight ensued, and Nightfall was eventually defeated. However, because of Toni's mind-scan of Kyra to assure that it was not Kyra that was causing Nightfall, her night with Taylor was exposed, and the two were put on rather thin ice rules-wise at Xavier's. Before any of them could really catch their breath, though, older-model sentinels began to attack, provoking a strike team attack on the sentinel's headquarters and their leader, Bolivar Trask. Kyra had another large confidence boost during this strike, taking out not only a helicopter, but two mini-sentinels. However, Trask's real mission wasn't to revive sentinels... it was to summon the alien insectoid species called the Brood. Eventually, after possessing Van Larkin, the Brood attacked the school, nearly overwhelming Kyra and the other students. They were saved by Gabriel Raiden, who's strategic planning, as well as a well-timed blast from Kyra and a punch from her friend Talon, saved them by ending the Brood threat. With the latest threat avoided, things finally began to calm down once again... but of course, this wasn't to last. Here Comes Tomorrow Kyra has been teleported to Egypt, fought in the heart of New York City, and been sent to parts of her own mind and psyche she hadn't known existed... but nothing prepared her for the newest mission the X-Men were going to undertake... going 200 years into the future to save their teammate, Toni, after she was sucked into the same vortex that swallowed the X-Men. They arrived, thanks to Reed Richards, in the future... and 1,300 feet in the air. Kyra got seperated from the group, and wound up being saved -if it could be called that- by the human resistance group called The Pack. In this future, Mutants had taken over as dominant species, and were quietly snuffing out all baseline humans. After being bound and rather cruelly treated by other members of the Pack, Kyra was let go by their leader, Shepard, and returned to the X-Men. After escaping the grasp of the future X-Men, called X451, they wound up joining forces with the Pack. After many struggles, they found Toni, only to learn she had been trapped in the future for two years, and was currently seeing X451's leader. After a fight between the X-Men and the Pack against X451 and many other future X-Men, they finally recovered Toni, and only returned to their proper time thanks to the intervention of the time and reality hopping Exiles, led by Eve's own son. Things at the school were tense, as not only was Toni and Josh's impending marraige thrown into whack, but also Kyra's knowledge that, unless something was done, the future was not a place she was going to be proud to create. |
Rise and Fall Kyra had handled herself fairly well in the future, she had survived, and helped the future hopefully recover from the damage the totalitarian X-Men had done to it. She and Taylor were in the middle of a beautiful romance that seemed to have no end in sight, and she was making new friends all around the school, in the form of Dakota, Krystal, Mera, Jasmine, and Kat, to say the least. More self-victory would come on their next mission, against the alternate-reality villain called the Sugar Man. After getting hold of Kyra's ankle and pulling her towards him to eat her, a bit of teamwork with the gym instructor, Dean Zitara, had the villain taken out just as Xander arrived, earning Kyra her first "good work" from Xander's lips, something that she desperately needed to hear. Her social life, relationship, and confidence were at their peak. Tragedy follows X-Men however, and in less than three days, her entire optimistic view was completely shattered. After missing prom, citing a bad flu, Taylor left Xavier's while everyone was at prom, leaving a single note for Kyra. Taylor's mom, who had disowned her not a month before for being a mutant, was in the hospital, and Taylor had to be at her side. She avoided confronting Kyra for fear of Kyra's reaction, which, in reality, was much worse for not telling the girl. Kyra's been trying to focus on anything but her own life since, and that came in the form of Amorphus attacking the school the very night after recieving the note. Xander, Eve, Dean, and Kat were going to Muir Island, which had been decimated by a nuclear bomb the night before. Kyra took charge when she was unable to get in contact with anyone else, leading herself, Mera, Krystal, Dakota, and George through the school, attempting to get to the Danger Room. Eventually, because of Amorphus, they were stuck in the lifts, when Wallis came back in contact, and at Kyra's advice, took them to the gym for safety while Jamar took on Amorphus. Kyra kept everyone she could alive, rather than sending the other students, all of which who were much newer than ever herself, into a battle with the most powerful mutant they'd ever faced. It was a choice that she felt confident with, as did Wallis and Jamar, the only two senior X-Men still at the school. The next day, Kyra spoke with Xander... and was made to turn over her comm to him, removed from the X -Men for acting out of place (taking control of the students), leaving a man behind (Jamar, who was fighting Amorphus), and not deferring to a senior X-Man (aka, Wallis). Kyra no longer wants to be on the same team as Xander, and is attempting to act like she's fine, as if nothing is wrong, as if she doesn't care about not being on the team, what she thought was her best hour being her worst in Xander's eyes, or Taylor leaving her flat because she didn't trust her to listen. She's trying to look as if she doesn't care, and is sometimes succeeding, but anyone that knows her knows this isn't true... and knows that inside, she is tearing herself apart. | ![]() |
