BOOST PERFORMANCE OF WINDOWS XP
BOOST THE PERFORMANCE OF WINDOWS XP AND OTHER WINDOWS IN AVERAGE, SO THAT EVERY THING WILL BE FINE IN XP AND THERE WOULD NOT BE ANY WOES LIKE HANGING AND CRASHING OF WINDOWS XP.EACH TRICK IS IN A BLOCKQUOTE
- Start->Run type services.msc which will open Services Computer Management Console showing services running in windows xp. Some services start manually and some automatically at start-up but they run in hidden mode in background. You can choose un-necessary services not to run on start-up and set it to run if started manually by user. To do that right click on the service (the service you want to run manually when u want rather than automatically at startup) and click properties option, then a window will open. There under the label "startup type" select Manual (here service will run if user starts it manually) (there's an option to disable but don't do that if u mess with some thing-it'll go out of order).Press ok and at next boot it'll have effect. Again if you want to stop that services at the same instant rightclick on it and click stop.Unnecessary services like indexing, remote access, wireless stuffs..and all run at background and consume a lot of memory.

- For those who have sufficient amount of ram (512 mb) then remove the paging file from hard disk, so that all os resource files of xp reside in ram and will be fetched faster and easily (previously they were transferred from disk to ram and again used so it was bit slow).Right click My Computer->(click)Properties->Advanced(tab)->Under "Performance" label click "Settings" button. (performance option windows appears). Here in this performance option window Click on Advanced(tab)->Under label "Virtual Memory" click on "Change" button (Virtual memory window opens). Under virtual memory window select the drive where some virtually memory is allocated with(it would be clearly visible there) and check the radio button coresponding to "No Paging File".Click on "Set" near to it.And press ok to all open windows. If it asks for restart do it for settings to change.
DOING THE SAME THING BY REGISTRY
Start regedit(startmenu ->run->type "regedit" press ok) go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\ Control\Session Manager\Memory Management] .Look at right side pane the key "DisablePagingExecutive" double click it and change the value. Set the value there to be 1 to disable paging and 0 to enable again if you want . Reboot the computer

- (only for those who have minumim ram 128 mb capacity and installed apache web servers and other tools like me )
If u have minimal ram capacity and don't want good graphics and styles and want good performance then rightclick on desktop and clcik on properties. There in themes dropdown list, out of all the listed themes choose windows classic (now it'll look more like windows NT & 2000).Right click My Computer->(click)Properties->Advanced(tab)->Under "Performance" label click "Settings" button. (performance option windows appears). Here in this performance option window there are many radio buttons but out of them check the radio button coresponding to "Adjust for best performance". Right click My Computer-> (click) Properties ->Advanced (tab)->Under "Performance" label click "Settings" button. (performance option windows appears). Here in this performance option window Click on Advanced(tab)->Under label "Virtual Memory" click on "Change" button (Virtual memory window opens). Under virtual memory window select the drive where some virtually memory is allocated with (it would be clearly visible there). There check radio button "custom size" and put a high value for initial and final size of paging file whose maximum value can be 4 GB (also u should have enough free space in that drive paging file of 1.5 gb max is enough) (if u have minimal ram then apply this trick). Also more icons and files at desktop slows a bit, so avoid that. If you want to have virtual memory for that os,then don't set virtual memory in some partition other than the primary partition of that os as it'll affect performance negatively and physically might damage harddisk after prolonged use.

- For those who still want performace and style of windows xp apply the following trick. Start > right-click on My Computer and select Properties. Click on the "Advanced" tab. See the "Performance" section? Click "Settings". Disable the following (untick them):
Fade or slide menus into view
Fade or slide ToolTips into view
Fade out menu items after clicking
Show Shadows under menus
Slide open combo boxes
Slide taskbar buttons
Use a background image for each folder type
Use common tasks in folders (what i recomend is this should be kept enabled b'coz it's easy to operate on files in the folder)
Now Windows will still look nice and perform faster as the fading and sliding effects wre un-observable and were consuming memory.

- PREFETCHER IN WINDOWS XP FETCHES SOME INSTRUCTIONS PRIOR TO IT'S EXECUTION AND STORES IN CACHE SO THAT THAT APPLICATION-INSTRUCTION WILL EXECUTE FASTER.IF WE PREFETCH MORE STUIFFS THEN IT WOULD PERFORM BETTER.
Click on: Start Menu-> Run there type "regedit" to open registry editor and look for keys of entry [HKEY_LOCAL_MECHINE\ SYSTEM\CurrentConrolSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters] .There in right side pane search for DWORD key named "ENABLEPREFETCHERA" (oviously without quotes).Double click it and see what is the value change the value to 6 for making more fast. (it can be 3 and more but on becoming less then 3 system will be damn slow-if u have 3 don't worry). Now close the Registry Editor and restart.

- Open Registry by going to START-RUN and typing REGEDIT. Navigate to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\ Control\Session Manager\Memory Management]. Double click the key "IoPageLockLimit" in right side pane to edit it's value. Depending upon how much RAM you have, you can increase your diskcache size by entering a higher value in IoPageLockLimit. Typically your computer won't come optimized for diskcache and you can set to a value which works best for you by trial and error. Rule of thumb says to have a ratio of 1 or 2 for every 64K chuck. But try out various different values as each case would be a little different.
