Parts Of An Airport |
Apron- This is the part of the airport commonly refered to as "The Tarmac or Ramp". This is where all the planes park and pull up to gates. They are service and prepared for their next flights here. Terminal- This is the building that is open to the public. This is where passengers check in and board their flights. This is also where they pick up their incomming bags from a flight. Control Tower- The control tower is the most noticeable thing of an airport around. It is a tower usually about 5 floors high, with a glass dome on top. It also has a radar on top of it. This is where the planes recieve directions and instructions for their flight. It is maned by controllers, who look at their radar screens and make sure everything is safe for flight. Runway- After a plane finishes taxing, they are ready for takeoff. The runway is a long straight layer of ashvault in which a plane can gain enoughf speed on and take off. An airport numbers these runways by their magnetic heading. Taxiway- The taxiway connects the apron and the runway. |
