Lift is what makes a plane fly. It is created by the wings of a plane when they are in motion through the air. In this diagram of a Canadian Airlines 767-300, the different air currents are represented by the _________ and @@@@@@. The @'s represent curving air on top of the wing, and the _______'s represent the straight airflow under the wing. The air on top of the wing curves becuase the wing is curved. Becuase it is curved, the air takes more time to go over the top of the wing instead of the bottom. The air above the wing speeds up and the air below the wing stays the same and low air pressure developes on top of the wing, and the higher pressure air below the wing pushes up on the wing and thats what causes lift. |
