Cake

Comfort Eagle

What ever happened to guitars and horns and catchy riffs and a lead singer that doesn't really sing, or kinda sings but not really well?

Ahhhhhhh.... finally.... a cd with a singer that sucks... but the fact that he sucks doesn't take away from the album's relative jam level... from track 1 to track 11 children hear the rythems and dance, old people's sex drives increase and the average music fan nods his head and smiles....

even though comfort eagle is absent of an italian leather sofa song that was on cake's last opus, it is still a nice piece of work... and their first single, short skirt/long jacket, is cool... "it jams" as my cousin would say... it is far better than "going the distance", their first single from their last album...

the only two gripes i have with this cd is it's length... 11 tracks.... 36 minutes... the longest song is barely over 4 minutes... but i guess it is quality over quantity that counts... but still... i paid roughly 50 cents a minute for this cd...

gripe 2 is the poppy feel of the whole thing... it is definitely made for the radio in homage to groups like bare naked ladies and weezer... but they aren't bubble gum... and cake makes sure the music is solid even though the vocals are always second rate... and i guess that's what makes them cake...

so to summarize... and this will be on the test... cake good... music excellent... singing... well... um... nicely off key... short songs... quality album...

3 1/2 out of 5 stars...

Rush Hour 2 Soundtrack

Can there ever be too many soundtrack collaborations with popular hip hop and r&b talents? no? what? do you work for the record labels?

let me start out by saying i hate, hate, hate jackie chan... and chris tucker was funny in friday, but that's about it... one man barely speaking english and the other speaking way too much english at an annoyingly high pitch... ugh... but that isn't why i bought the soundtrack... i bought it simply for one reason and now i wish i wouldn't have...

the first song is "area codes" by ludacriss and nate dogg.... i love ludacriss... that guy is nuts... the song is pretty good... and nate dogg is a solid singer.... and i spent the money to get a good copy of a song i could have probably ripped off of the net somewhere, but i'm a big proponant of the performers getting paid....

there are a couple of other good songs... method man shows up on one song, party and bullshit... i thought it was a remake of notorious b.i.g.'s first ever single that appeared on the who's the man soundtrack... but i don't think it is... and meth is another one of those guys that goes nuts and makes you nod your head in approval...

then there is a song with redman, method man's label mate.... wait everyone on the cd is a label mate... wow go figure... columbia/def jam... what marketing...

another song features newly signed def jam artist scarface... gotta love him but his song here isn't the finest example of his raw lyrical strength...

the rest of the songs are half assed r&b slow tracks... i don't care much for em... unless i'm sliding around on some silk sheets with a special..... porn in the vcr....... and even then i prefer barry white and isaac hayes.... oh baby......

if you really really really want this cd then go out and buy it... if not, burn yourself a copy off of your dumbass friend that just had to buy it cuz montell jordan makes her... ah hem... moist....
