What is anaglyph?

anaglyph (àn´e-glîf´) noun
A moving or still picture consisting of two slightly different perspectives of the same subject in contrasting colors that are superimposed on each other, producing a three-dimensional effect when viewed through two correspondingly colored filters.
A device used to create still images if you do not have a two cameras. The device is mounted on a tri-pod.

The following three graphs show the hardware limitations (glasses). The graphs of the following should be view by closing one eye then the other eye.
This example shows filter of shows the red/blue filters success and failures of the glasses.

This is the RGB spectrum to show 255 to black.

Mar's Mission


 


The Mar's Mission used Stereo images to allow the driver of the Rover Stereo vision. This Stereo vision allowed the driver to access the terrain ahead of the Rover. The Rover's vision allows the driver to avoid large boulders and possible holes which could trap the Rover and thereby stop its mission. The images are sent back to earth and relayed to a PC in which glasses are used to drive the Rover. The stereo scopic images allow the driver also to tell depth and distance of the terrain.

Problems with thinking of the algorithm as a simple algorithm.

Problems? Yes, there are many problems some you may have noticed with the explanation of the creation of Red/Blue Images. The problems are ghost, photograph problems, image axis offset, hyperstereo, no stereo, and brightness.

Ghost: The bleeding of image from one lens to the other lens (from filter to other filter). These ghost can be caused by a few reasons the distance between your eyes may be different from another person who took the photograph or generated the image. Another reason the brightness of the image being to greatly white that will bleed into other eye's lens.

Image offset: Since each persons eyes are different distance between them this can cause a problem in looking correctly usually the stereo can be corrected by setting offset.

Hyperstereo: A image that was intentionally or accidentally taken with photo distance between two images greater between the eyes to appear a greater stereo distance than realistic.

Brightness: A image being of great brightness will cause ghost or other problems of filtering.

Distance between eyes: The distance between eyes is different between experts what is best some just say about 2", others 2.5". I believe one should keep two images not just the result for viewing because that way you could generate the image again when technology advances or you get LCD glasses or program figures out 3d depth for you. jps I believe is standard stereo saving and viewing format that i have seen. I use tiff in case i have problems with copyright or some problem of the like.

Vertical Alignment: The same points in the two stereo images must be on the same horizontal line. If there is a perceptible difference there will be some very unpleasant eye strain for the viewer. For example, if you have a visible horizon they should line up on both images.
 


What 's the Future of Anaglyph?

I Believe Anaglyph will turn into pure Stereo Images which you wear electronic Stereo Glasses which react by cycling very fast to give you 3D effect by flickering a LCD lens open and closed. Which for the poor man, he will have to use Red/Blue Glasses for awhile. These LCD glasses are under a $100 as of 1999. Perhaps in future even TV will use these or a more sophisticated version of these glasses.
