Spirit
of Lithuanian folklore that took the shape of a black
cock when indoors and that of a dragon or a black cat outdoors. It
usually nest behind the stove, eating and drinking what
the inhabitants of the house leave it. Once it makes its
home in a house, it is almost impossible to get rid of
it. It provides the household with wealth, but these
gifts from it bring trouble as they are usually stolen.
An Aitvaras can be purchased from the Devil, the price being one's soul.
