| One
of a group of evil male spirits of German folklore that
is often associated with Incubi often plaguing the nights and
dreams of women. Alps can fly like birds and ride like
horses, but in all their forms, they are always seen
wearing a hat. Alps sucked blood from the nipples of men
and children, though they prefer the milk of women. A
child would become an Alp if his mother used a horse
collar to ease childbirth. It was said that it was
virtually impossible to destroy and Alp. See also Alfar. |
