| The
leader of the Watchers that, instead of teaching his wife the art
of enchantment, taught her the art of warfare and
cosmetics. He was subsequently condemned by God to abide
in utter darkness until Judgement Day, where he would be
thrown into the Lake of Fire to be consumed forever. In
other accounts, he is the leader of the Se'irim who lived in the wilderness. Moses
and the Israelites encountered him in the wanderings of
the desert and sacrificed to him the Scapegoat. In Islamic tradition, Azazel is another name for Iblis. In Paradise Lost, Milton describes him as the standard-bearer of the fallen angels. |
